Enlighten me:
1) Phone crashes - Where is the "Crash" preference? I'd like to set it to "never." I'll even take, "once a week."
2) Number of rings - Where is the preference that allows me to set the number of rings before it goes to voice mail? Two is just not enough.
3) Ear piece - Unlike you, walking around with an ear piece in my ear is just unacceptable.
4) Getting the phone out of my pocket without hanging up on the caller - Where is the preference that disables this?
5) Task list deleted - Where is the preference for not removing my entire task list? While it's nice not to have anything to do, I prefer to make this decision myself, not have my phone delete my entire task list.
6) And the Pièce de résistance - The phone actually does not allow me to dial new numbers approximately 25% of the time. I dial a number and push the "Talk" button and it dials a number from my Contacts list. (I have shown this to numerous people. It is not user error.) So, please tell me where the preference is for, "Dial the correct number" so that I can set it to "99% of the time." (Dialing the wrong number occasionally can be fun.)
I appreciate your knowledge and thoughtful reply to my post.

I have an HTC Touch and have had for three months now. I just came accross the string and although it is old I feel I must respond. I use my HTC Touch for everything!!! (from business, to personal, to banking, and gaming). It has excellent features and a few bad features. It sounds like ST is not only a novice but a dimwit. All if not most of the problems described can be solved by simply exploring the features and adjusting them to your preference. While it is true the HTC Touch will engage other programs when you are talking on the phone (who, in this day and age doesn't have an earpeice?) it can be solved by simply pressing the off button at the top of the phone. While this will stop/pause most other applications which were in use, if you were soly using the phone you can still talk with the power off. It only shuts off the computer functions of the HTC, but the phone will remain operable. Windows Mobile 6 is not the best, but you can bipass it all together by using programs like Opera Mini witch work great, however I don't have many problems with WM6. Additionally, as to size, if you buy a small stylus based phone, then you have a small stylus based phone.
Wishing it were something else wont change your own stupidity.

ha ha you a newbie who says things he does not know about. Iphone is a piece of junk. It has so many lack of features and it not a true business phone. It just a personal phone with good looks is all it is. Windows Mobile 6.1 beats Iphone. How else Windows Mobile Smartphone been using 3G for 2yrs now and Iphone suddenly gets it ha ha ha old news. Besides Iphone you can even replace the battery because it is soldiered to the iphone what a joke. What happens your middle of no where and your Iphone battery runs out and no place to charge the iphone? well windows mobile smartphone you can replace the battery anytime with a spare. Also if your Iphone battery becomes bad or dead you have to send the Iphone to Apple to fix which will cost you $85 + labor cost ha ha way to go Steve Jobs more money to your pocket. Also Iphone don't even have a external memory if you ever want to add more storage space. And these days external storage are so cheap I can even get a 8gigabye microSD for $50.00 way better than Iphone built in 8Gigabyte. At least microSD is transferable :) Again you saying Windows Mobile is terrible OS. You might has well get book for dummies has you will learn from that. – mobile, on September 17, 2008 10:27

ha ha blackberry sucks! I had many people switch to Windows Mobile Smartphone. Also if you go for blackberry your unlimitted data plan will cost more compare to a Windows mobile smartphone. Don't believe what that solomex said he seems to be a newbie who is probably one of those mac fanboys ha ha ha.. Iphone 3G has so many bugs and complaints of there lack of 3G connection which does not even run that fast. Windows mobile beats Iphone anytime. Iphone is good only for it looks is all it about. – mobile, on September 17, 2008 10:20

The reason why your phone freezes because don't you ever hear a thinkg called updated Firmware. You need to updated your ROM on your phone and that will fix the crash. Go to HTC site or sprint and download free ROM – mobile, on September 17, 2008 10:17

It is a peice of junk. I have it for sprint and it creahes more often than I can count in a week. Furthermore, when people call it freezes and you can answer the phone until you reset it. BTW, if it is a person that is not in your contacts (i.e. number only) you should write that down because once you reset the phone it is as if no one ever called and there is not trace of the missed/frozen call anywhere in your phone history. I love the concept of the phone but they have a long way to go before it can be considered as an option to the iPhone. It is exactly like the PC versus Mac commercials PC freezes Mac doesn't; PC is not user friendly Mac is. Essentially, DO NOT GET THIS PHONE!!!-

My MacBook pro has this problem too. It will not properly shut down regardless of what is done to it. Every time I wish to close the cover and NOT have the processor keep running until the battery dies, I have to punch the power button to force it to quit (and go through the long self-verification check at startup).

I use the HTC Touch from Alltel and can truly say that is a piece of junk. The problems are myriad. First, Windows Mobile 6.0 is a terrible OS. My phone crashes an average of 5 times per week. (What? Never heard of a phone crashing. Neither had I until I purchased this wreck.) Second, the user interface is so unintuitive, that I literally stare at the phone everytime I turn it on, trying to figure out what to press to do the simplest things, such as make a phone call, go to my contacts list, access my call history. Third, the phone does not recognize when it is close to your ear. After a long conversation, the phone will have launched other programs because my ear is touching the screen. It's quite comical to hang up the phone and see a game playing. But it is not funny at all to have the phone switch to Airplane mode and hang up on the other party.
I too like the small size, but unfortunately it is so small that you have to use the stylus for virtually everything.
One of the most annoying features is that if the phone rings and it is in your pocket, you might actually touch the ignore button when digging it out of your pocket and hence you miss the call.
There are many more problems with this phone. Suffice to say, that is a lame attempt at being an iPhone. If I could get AT&T where I live, I would pay the $200 premature cancellation fee at Alltel, switch to AT&T, and buy an iPhone.
ST reported a problem in Apple on July 02, 2008 05:29:
Macbook doesn't shutdown properly after upgrading to LeopardEver since upgrading to Leopard, my Macbook does not shutdown properly. If I leave my external monitor or a usb cable attached to a KVM switch plugged in, it absolutely will not shutdown. The screen shuts off and it looks like it has shutdown, but if you listen carefully you can still hear the fan. To restart it, I must hold down the power button for several seconds to really shut it down, and then restart in a normal fashion.
Unplugging both the external monitor and the USB cable usually works, however, sometimes when I pull the plug on the USB cable, I get a dialog box telling me that I must shutdown by holding down the power button for several seconds.
