Getting Strange message adding some tracks to a group...?!This is the message I get, and don't know why?
"You added this track 1 minute ago to this group.
At the moment it is not visible in this group"
Telling me that I've added a track that is not visible to other user... hmm.. will it
ever be? As I can also remove it again with a button.

Steen Larsen (SLL) replied on July 03, 2009 14:03 to the problem "Group upload (+ normal upload, replace) doesn't work here at all with Firefox 3.0.11" in SoundCloud:
Well, I've managed to use the oldschool uploader. But this is the only way I can upload files to SC. The newschool uploaders doesn't work with Firefox. I've just been told, that Firefox 3.5 is public released, so i'll better try the upload out after updating.
I would also love to have some better callback routines, that actually showed the use how much of the file that were uploaded. I really don't know what is going on with the info you'll get now. It can't be used or trusted for anything, as it seems to be random on each upload. Sometimes 10% is uploaded, and other times it goes right up to 90% the minute you press "ok" to upload.
Is there a chance, that it would be possible, to make the uploading routines steady, for example with a certain browser like Firefox or Internet Explorer. And with what browser do the "normal" newschool uploaders/replace routines work correctly?
All the best,
SLL

Group upload (+ normal upload, replace) doesn't work here at all with Firefox 3.0.11I've never really been happy about the uploading /encoding routines (new, oldschool, group, replace routine). The normal upload doesn't work either, and I think the group upload is based on that?! The only upload routine that works here, is the oldschool uploader.
Another problem is the process meter, how much of the file that has been uploaded. Its simply doens't work right, and never has. Sometimes its race up to about 90% finish from the beginning of an upload. And other times it only goes half up. Its completely random, can can't be trusted for checking up on how much of the file that is uploaded.
Another big problem is the encoding routine on the SC servers. When the file is uploaded, its just out of hand, and you'll never know when its finished. It would be great, is it was possible to show the user how long it will take to process the uploaded file with an gauge meter.
To sum up:
I think the uploading routines is a big hanging problem in general. They often doesn't work or takes forever to finish. And the screen updating about how long it will take to finish is not really usable. So SC, please put some more time into the haunted uploading routines, that spoils the fun.

Cheers Alex, and good to see you reply to this important problem. Yes, the bad stuttering problem is also big for me, as its all the time, no matter what I do when I'm logged into SC. And before the Kim update, things were looking much different, no stuttering here or any other bad performance things.
As fort the Internet speed, I'm also sure that it has nothing to do with it. If you're using a i7 cpu with 6Gb of memory, then I guess there definitely must be a speed leak somewhere in the code.
I say the same thing as you, a pain to browse now :(
I'll, hope to see the SC crew taking this problem professional and not turning away from the, trying to forget all about it.

Thanks Alex for helping me out on this problem :-)
I don't think SC is taking the slow GUI serious yet, as I've been telling about this for some days without a single reply from any of the SC people?! Personally, I "think" they haven't tested the new "Kim" release on slower computers and/or slower Internet connections (as loading time also is x 2), or am I wrong, then please tell me. But you really have to test SC releases on different size computers. And I don't think SC has announced any minimum computer setups for running their site.
Everything was running so smooth after they got the new servers. But after the "Kim" release, things speed wise looks as bad as the early days before the new servers.
(This is one of my topic from the blog:)
I just wrote down some percentage values from the different SC views. How much cpu usage SC takes in the XP task manager doing nothing:
Dashboard: 50%
You: 30-40%
Tracks: 50%
People: 20-30%
Groups: 10%
I don't know how the numbers looked before the update. But as said, I think that SC has made things work smoothly on newer computer systems. And if you are a little outdated as I'm with an old P4C computer, thinks can be very bad. But I don't like the fact, that SC was working smoothly on my setup before the new update. So I guess it much be one pretty heavy update in terms of whats made differently behind the scene, or... something isn't done right or is running right.
I'm having no problems surfing around on the Internet on other Internet pages, fast and smooth. But the minute I enter the SC pages, things goes from good to bad in speed.
My computer setup:
- P4C (2.8Ghz 1core + HT) (yes, not fast, but should be fine for Internet surfing!)
- 2GB DDR mem
- Gfx: Geforce FX5200
- Windows XP SP2
- Kaspersky Internet security 2009
- Firefox v3.0.11
- Internet connection: 6mbit / 384kbit (which should be more than enough for SC)

Trying to send message to SC support.. is taking forever.. not sure if its send?!Do any of you have problems with mails to SC support directly? I tried twice now, and both times after I click on the "send" button, its just starts to animate the button endlessly, as if the message ain't send. Hmm.. it does say its send though, but I'm not sure as the send button keeps animating.

The new "Kim" update is completely unusable for me :(Even now when I write this with the dashboard in the background, the characters I typo in the textbox is updates as fast as I write. Its 1 seconds behind keypress.
In generel, the problem is, that the SC GUI is eating up 50% of my CPU resources. Before the updates, everything with running smooth without any slugginess. But now I don't know what task that runs in the background that has changed.
I know I'm not on a modern fast computer, but this updates made SC worse than ever performance wise. I use an old P4C 2.8Ghz cpu with 2GB of memory. And normal Internet surfing + SC has never been a problem until now.
Can any of you fill me in on how everything acts on your computers?!
To sum up:
Stand in the Dashboard view, my cpu uses 50% of its resources. Thats why the GUI is slow.
When I go into my tunes "you", the 50% falls to about 25-30%. Better, but still slugginess is hunting me.

Don't navigate away from the uploading page. Then you will loose the upload if its still uploading. Open up a new tap, if you want to navigate to other sites while uploading.
Also try the "oldschool" uploader, if you're having problems with the normal newschool uploader. I have to use the oldschool uploader, otherwise nothing gets uploaded.

Steen Larsen (SLL) replied on May 31, 2009 17:43 to the problem "Playing tracks" in SoundCloud:
Also occasionally have this problem. A few moments ago, I was viewing the "Dashboard", and played some tune from there, that were uploaded. the strange thing is, that only some of the tunes would play back. On some of the, nothing happened when I clicked on the "play" button. First when I entered the user page, of which uploaded the file, I could play the file back. And when I pressed on the "back" button on my browser, I could also play the file from the "dashboard".
So its some kind of random problem, not happening all the time.
I'm using Firefox 3.0.1.0, but have had the Firefox pop-up blocker enabled + the add pop up blocker in Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. I don't know if this could have anything to do with the problem, as it works fine sometimes?!
But now I've entered Soundcloud on the "write-list" of both blockers, to see if this will help anything?

Steen Larsen (SLL) replied on May 18, 2009 19:13 to the problem "Uploads complete but track does not finish" in SoundCloud:
I have the exact same problem with the oldschool uploader. The minute I select an MP3 file to upload, the process meter goes quickly up to about 50 to 90%, and stays there. It never finish, or at least it looks that way. But actually, the upload does finish and track uploads fine. But I have to check when the upload stream is finish manually on my Internet security bandwidth monitor :-) And when its finish, I'll wait some time, as I'm not sure if I interrupt the file encoding in some way... but after some time, I just check my uploaded files, and its there.
The newschool uploader also works this way, but no file is uploaded or at least saved among my files :(
And the replace routine also works this way, but no file is replaces? :(
So I always have to upload a new tracks (version of a track), instead of using the replace routine.
I'm using Firefox 3.0.10 on win XP.

Steen Larsen (SLL) replied on May 16, 2009 17:45 to the question "what can i do with pro?" in SoundCloud:
Depends on which "pro" account you buy. All pro accounts can have unlimited numbers of tracks contained.
1. On the cheapest "Light" account, you can max. upload 15 tracks per month.
2. On a "Standard" account, you can max. upload 50 tracks per month.
3. And on the "max", its unlimited amount of tracks per month.
So 27 tracks is possible with a "light" account. But you have to split the upload of tracks up in two parts. 1st month 15 tracks, and the 2nd month the rest. Or buy the "standard" account, where you can upload all of them in one go!
You can see it all here:

Problem with the new myspace flash player, the listbox scroll up/down controlThe new Flash player has a nice look. But I have a little problem with the listbox scroll up/down control, that is very big in my case. Please have a look at my profile:
http://www.myspace.com/sllmusicproduc...
Because the listbox scroll up/down control is so long, it looks like you can't scroll down on the list. I would really have had a shorter control, so that you could see the top and botton of the control, which is not possible in my case.
