Stephen Judge replied on July 29, 2009 11:15 to the question "Allow native video playing for OGG Theora" in blip.tv:
I am also wondering if you will ever implement server side transcoding of files to OGG Theora as well as flash. The reason why is, when you do drop the cortado player and allow native browser playing of Theora videos, there are several Theora container files that are not supported by the browsers.
Firefox for example can support playback of Theora videos, but only in the .ogg container and not in other commonly used containers such as .ogv , .ogm and .mkv and from what Theora videos are on Blip.tv, there are several that are in these unsupported containers.
If you were to take every file submitted and transcode on your sever so it is on the correct .ogg container then we would not have this problem and you would allow visitors to fully enjoy the benefits of the HTML 5 features.
Stephen Judge asked a question in blip.tv on July 29, 2009 11:09:
Bookmarking Shows and EpisodesThere seems to be no simple way to bookmark an individual episode or subscribe to a show. I understand you can subscribe to a show using RSS for Miro and iTunes, which is great and it is why I love Blip.tv, but I would also like to subscribe to several shows within Blip.tv so I can go to my Blip.tv dashboard and see which shows I am subscribed to.
Also if I find a particular episode from a show, there is also no easy way to bookmark it. Yes you can add it to a playlist, but there is even a convoluted process of getting from the player to the episode page and then creating a playlist to add it too. Why can't I simply click on a star or some such from within the player to add it to my favourites in the Dashboard.
It seems ironic, that while other video sites are great and keeping you locked into there ecosystem like YouTube and Vimeo, and terrible at being open. Blip.tv is the opposite, excellent at allowing open distribution and consumption of the video, but not great at keeping us tied in on your site when we want to be.
Stephen Judge replied on July 29, 2009 02:26 to the question "Is Vidoop gone out of business?" in Vidoop:
So Scott Blomquist, employee of Vidoop has told us on his reply above to my concerns about the company and our data, that he will be notifying us of future developments about the company on the company blog (blog.vidoop.com), except that now the company blog is gone too, go visit it, you will just get redirected to the Vidoop.com home page. Communication from the company is getting better, hey.
And still no word on efforts to allow us to export our data from Vidoop and what Vidoop will do with out data. I don't expect we will get any word either.
Stephen Judge asked a question in Get Satisfaction on July 29, 2009 02:17:
Where did OpenID Go?What happened to the OpenID login support for Get Satisfaction go to. I used to be able to log in to Get Satisfaction with my OpenID but now with the newly designed front page there is only an option to log in with my email address. This is going backwards not forwards, do you understand the value of OpenID for speed, security and ease of use for those of us that use it. Please re-instate it.

A comment on the idea "Sync to Xmarks and Own Hosted Server" in Xmarks:
Hmm, yes I see your point. Although I still think it would be a useful feature to have, maybe not high on priority for sure, but nice to have none the less. So if you do get around to implementing it it'd be nice. – Stephen Judge, on July 17, 2009 19:02

Sync to Xmarks and Own Hosted ServerIs it possible to synch to Xmarks storage and also to my own hosted server. If it is not, can you take this as feature request. I want to keep synching to Xmarks but also to my own server as a backup in case Xmarks servers die like Ma.gnolia.com or their service shuts down like myVidoop.
Stephen Judge reported a problem in IntenseDebate on July 13, 2009 13:19:
Can't get Generic Install Code for WordPress blogOk, I have a WordPress blog, but it is on a Free Hosting provider so the WordPress plugin won't work. I know there is a Generic Install but I can't get to the code. When go to the Install page and enter my website URL it automatically detects I am using WordPress and it straight away goes to the WordPress plugin install option without giving me the option to choose the Generic Install. So how can I get my Generic Install code.

A comment on the question "How to log in to Facebook with OpenID" in OpenID Foundation:
Ah okay, I understand, it does seem a bit awkward alright, why couldn't they just add an OpenID login interface to their main login page like everyone else. Facebook has to be special I guess.

A comment on the question "Is Vidoop gone out of business?" in Vidoop:
I agree, if they do intend on pumping some life back into Vidoop and keep myVidoop alive then the very least they could do is push out an update to the Firefox plugin that powers myVidoop, at this stage myVidoop is not much use to me because the plugin no longer works in Firefox.
But if the company does die completely then we need to be concerned about our data and how it will be treated, what assurances will we have, there is no assurances in their Terms and Conditions. – Stephen Judge, on July 11, 2009 23:44
A comment on the question "Is Vidoop gone out of business?" in Vidoop:
While I welcome some sort of statement from an employee of the company, it does not fill me with confidence. I have now read several of these half informative statements coming from the company and this is the first time you have come out and answered any concerns from your users. I personally emailed you several times and send you @ messages to your Twitter account and got no reply. At this stage I want to look for another OpenID and password storage provider, I will likely choose Verisign, and what I would be more interested to see coming from Vidoop now is a tool to help us users export our password data.
It is a very sad state of affairs for your company but reading Chris Messina's open and informative post about the direction in which the company was led and its eventual demise is so disappointing. To see the talent of the great team of developers you had and the great products you had lost to what appears to have been poor management and a lack of focused attention. Ultimately leaving your users in the dark is only going to drive them away and half statements like those that have been made just seem hollow and do not instil confidence.
If you do succeed in rescuing Vidoop and its products, (I would have loved to have seen VidoopConnect take off) then great because you have a great product, but you need new management to bring some great developers back. I don't hold out any hope though and for now you need to act responsibly to your users. – Stephen Judge, on July 11, 2009 23:17

Now with the impending news that Vidoop as a company is going out of business I am concerned about my password data stored on myVidoop. The responsible move for the company would be to create a tool to allow us to export our password and OpenID connections to a format that can be imported back into Firefox, maybe looking at how MozBackup does it, it is open source.-

Is Vidoop gone out of business?According to this article in The Portlander Vidoop may be going out of business, maybe we shouldn't expect to get any of our support queries resolved and start looking for a new OpenID and Password storage provider. The certainly haven't addressed the problem of the out of date Firefox extension after numerous support requests by email, Twitter and here.
