10-19-09 I had this problem on our 2004 CRV all wheel drive. The CRV has 45000 miles on it. I know its low miles we don't drive it a lot. The manual say's to change the fluid every 60000 miles or 5 years. That is important that Honda published this. Went to Honda for them to verify this in fact was the problem. Did not let them perform the repair that day. Called Honda 1-800-999-1009 filed a case with them. Using service bulletin 07-024 from august 12, 09.
It was then sent to a case manager that looked into Honda repairing the problem. I had to verbally tell them they were in fact wrong and they needed to pay for the repair, not me. I was nice to everyone I spoke to yet firm that I should not have to pay for this. What they ended up doing was burnishing the clutches and flushing the dual pump fluid 2 times.

Fact was they published 60000 miles service in the 04 owners manual. The service rep told me it should be changed every 15000 miles which is crazy. That's like saying " well I know you should change your oil every 3000 miles but we messed up and its really 750 miles. Would you buy that car? No Way! Honda is able to warranty things after the warranty is over you just have to show them your view point and be reasonable. I in fact offered to pay for part of this service and they said they would just take care of it.

Just make sure you get approval from Honda Prior to having the repair done. They will pay for it, but they will not pay you back after the repair is done.
