Any news on upgrading the version of Open Sim?Evening Balaji,
How are your experiments in upgrading the version of Open Sim itself going?
Looking at the latest version 0.6.1, there are a couple of bug fixes that I would be interested in.
I was reading about OAR http://opensimulator.org/wiki/OpenSim..., but it looks like this is only available after version 0.5.8
Would it be possible for you to create a version of Sim On Demand with the latest build of Open Sim. New users could then use this version. At an appropriate point you could then create another version of Sim on Demand with a later version of Open Sim and new users could use OAR to move across to the new version. This would resolve the issue of upgrading for everyone using the later version.
Users of the current version could decide whether to move across to the new version, losing all the work they have so far, or waiting for you to come up with a none destructive upgrade.

Possible broken MONO?Evening,
So now I can run and make changes to the Open Sim server, I'm starting to encounter problems with Open Sim itself.
When I compile any script within OpenSim, I get this error.
Primitive: Error compiling script:
Line (0,0): Error CS0006: cannot find metadata file `/opt/OpenSim.Region.ScriptEngine.Shared.dll'
Line (0,0): Error CS0006: cannot find metadata file `/opt/OpenSim.Region.ScriptEngine.Shared.Api.Runtime.dll'
This occurs with both script engines
The Wiki here ( http://opensimulator.org/wiki/Trouble... ) suggests the problem might be a broken MONO install and suggests re installing with
sudo apt-get install mono-gmcs
Any thoughts?

Hi Balaji,
Err.. this may just me be being stupid. But I don't appear to have a /vol/opt directory
Here's a cut and paste from the terminal
[root@7 ~]# ls -al /opt/opensim/Opensim.ini
ls: cannot access /opt/opensim/Opensim.ini: No such file or directory
[root@7 ~]# ls -al /opt/opensim/OpenSim.ini
-rw-r--r-- 1 simond simond 23879 2008-10-06 16:57 /opt/opensim/OpenSim.ini
[root@7 ~]# less /vol/opt/opensim/OpenSim.ini
/vol/opt/opensim/OpenSim.ini: No such file or directory
[root@7 ~]# cd /vol
[root@7 vol]# ls
backup lost+found mysql www

Afternoon Balaji,
Apologies its taken so long to get back to you.
I'm afraid I'm still in the position where any changes in /opt/opensim/OpenSim.ini are not persistant across instances.
I can amend the ini file, and then stop and start the sim to confirm it has worked. But when I shut the isntance down, next time the ini file has reverted to the default.

Hi Balaji,
Ah OK,
So if I had made a backup file in /opt/opensim, it would have vanished next time I started the incident? Because I thought I had made a backup, but now cannot see it.
So have I removed the softlink between the ini file in /opt and that in /vol? If so how do I restore it? Would it be OK to directly edit the ini file in /vol?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Balaji,
I'm trying to edit the OpenSim.ini, but it is reverting back to the default version when I pause and restore the instance. Here's the sequence of events:
Launch the instance.
SSH into the server
cd /opt/opensim to the directory
use VI to amend the name of the grid
exit VI using :wq to save and exit
use cat OpenSim.ini to confirm the file has changed
Pause the instance
Use ElasticFox to confirm the instance has terminated
Launch the instance again
SSH in and cd /opt/opensim
cat OpenSim.ini shows the file has reverted to its original version
Any thoughts?

Problem running screensHello again,
Well I successfully shutdown my OpenSim instance, but am having trouble restoring it. I can run it again using with the command mono OpenSim.exe but that leaves you at the OpenSim command line.
When I try screen -S OpenSim -d -m mono OpenSim.exe (found on the Open Simulator Wiki) OpenSim appears to fail after a few seconds. I know this because if I list the screens with screen -ls immediatly after starting OpenSim it confirms that a detached screen exists for OpenSim. However when i try screen -r simond/Opensim it says there is no screen to connect to. Running screen -ls confirms that there are no screens to attach to.
Any suggestions?

What is your update policy?Good Morning,
Open Sim is still subject to frequent patches, bug fixes and new versions.
What is your policy for updating your version to the a newer one?
Will users, such as me, have to install updates manually to our running instances?
