I've managed to disassociate the phone number from the dupe account. IMO this is poorly handled. It should not automatically create an account. It should notify of a failure rather than request more information to create an account. Tweets will not go to the intended account anyway so why bother with this function?

When I try to finish the registration form it won't let me use my duplicate account username. My phone is no longer hooked up to the duplicate, but the dupliate still exists and I have no idea what to do!

I can't log into my duplicate account, twitter won't recognise my mobile number because I already deleted it from my actual account. any advice on how to get rid of the duplicate?

Passing on some knowledge I found. Its possible that Twitter is not recognizing your phone number and seeing your initial text as an attempt to make a new account. Twitter will not ask your name if it knows you already have an account. Its possible you put your number in wrong. I was forgetting my country code? If your in the U.S. remember to put "+1" before your number. Should have a total of ten digits after the "+"

YAY!! Teflon you just ended a long battle I've been having with Twitter. Thank you so much. Like you I was over thinking. +1 is the way to go.

This doesn't solve the problem though for me. The root of the problem isn't that I have two accounts, I know how to delete the unwanted one, its that when I try to attach my phone number to my desired account all I end up doing is creating a new account with a different name. Something seems to be going wrong when I reply to the text "reply with your name to confirm".
