StormRider shared an idea in Sunbelt Software on November 30, 2008 18:17:
Save and compare current list of startup programsHow about saving lists of all of the startup programs, BHOs, etc. present at scan time, and later being able to compare that to the current state to show me what has changed? That would be very helpful when one's system starts behaving differently. Or to see what that new application just installed so you can block all the quickstart garbage that's wasting your memory and processor time. Rather than block things via the CounterSpy prompts while an application is installing, I'd prefer to let the app install everything so I can first see how it behaves unhindered. Then I can go block the stuff I don't think I need, see how the app behaves afterward, and undo my blockings if they seem to have caused problems. Otherwise if you block things during installation, then find the app behaves strangely, you don't know whether the app is bad or if your installation blocking was at fault.
StormRider replied on November 30, 2008 17:35 to the question ""Block this startup program" under My PC Explorer" in Sunbelt Software:
Please put back the "block" button for startup programs, that was one of the most useful features of CounterSpy v2, I was very disappointed to discover it was no longer available. It seems like every application one installs these days wants to have some resident quickstart code wasting my memory when I rarely use the app. Thanks for the tip about msconfig, I wasn't aware of that utility. But I'd rather see the capability in CounterSpy where it's more user-friendly. Why not create another registry key like /RunBlockedByCounterSpy, and create entries there before you remove them from /Run, so you can show what's been blocked and be able to restore them to /Run if so desired?
