Hey Roto, yep. I started getting in about a week ago. From the looks of this and other threads on GS, it appears that FB is going through a pretty major wave of database maintenance and/or reorgs. The one being discussed over the past 3 days seems to have started a few days after things recovered for the original group on the post. I wish they would just announce that maintenance is coming in advance along with an ETC. If they told us all it would be 2-3 days to perform maintenance due to the size of the databases, most customers would probably be ok (some of course wouldn't). By waiting until it happens to give customers the "site under maintenance" message, the natural tendency is to get frustrated and subsequently wonder whether maintenance is actually occurring or something is wrong. Again, the inability to reach a status board with current info, or a human who can provide the same, adds to the frustration. I'm going to try to leverage my company's relationship (we have 100s of bands on FB) to see if I can get them some constructive feedback on this and it's affect on their advertising revenue (which is ultimately what they care about). Not sure how it will fare, but wish me luck. – strebby, on May 27, 2009 16:20

They are definitely working on it now... I am able to get into all 4 browsers (IE 7, Safari, Firefox, and Google Chrome). No other changes done on my part to get things working.
Knowing how both databases and PHP work, it will probably take them some time to reorg and reindex (basically clean things up) before things get back to normal.
Probably would be best to give it another hour or two to fully recover.
Keep your fingers crossed.
Lynn, that was my frustration from minute one. The fact that there isn't a person, or relevant current status makes it frustrating. Generic FAQs are great for a lot of what we do as customers, but it fails to meet our needs if something falls outside the norm. And then it's simply too difficult to locate a valid email address to communicate with the Facebook team.
They're learning and will get better, but they really need someone on their team who knows customer service in the b2c world because running the shop like techies will only take them so far...

Without addressing each of those individually, have you tried logging into you're account from your husband's new laptop? If you got the same unsuccessful result, that would isolate it to your account. I did the same (tested from my wife's XP desktop and my son's and daughters Vista laptops)...all failures, but they all could get into their FB account (before and after my testing) – strebby, on May 18, 2009 20:43

No luck after the dns flush...
1) Flushed all files on IE 7, Firefox, and Google Chrome...
2) Closed all browsers...all the latest patched versions :^)
3) Dumped DNS cache
4) IE 7 -> "account unavailable...site maintenance"
5) Google Chrome -> ditto
6) Safari ->ditto
7) Firefox -> Logged in...
- Can navigate to home and profile pages.
- clicked "like" on a friends comment and got the following error:
Database Write Failed
An error occurred while writing to our database. Please try again later or contact customer support.
- cannot access inbox, send messages, etc.
No joy in Mudville........yet

:-) I like peace much better...
Almost better that there's more people having the problem as it's probably getting more of their attention. I know how hard it can be when it's intermittent and only a few users....
I've tried from a few different machines. Flushed all the browser cache but nothing at the network layer. Doing that now...stay tuned – strebby, on May 18, 2009 20:00

strebby asked a question in Facebook on May 18, 2009 18:24:
Why has my Facebook account been unavailable for over 62 hours?It's been 62 Hours without being able to access my Facebook account. Sometimes the error says site problem, the other time it says it's due to site maintenance. I got a few replies from Facebook on alternate email address, but they asked me to reply back on my primary for security reasons (which made sense), but I haven't heard anything since then. All I want is to be able to communicate with a live person and know the status of what's going on.

Hi roto:
OK, I think we can probably move on because no one's gaining anything from this conversation. I actually will be a fan of yours if you can offer something that could help me and the others having this issue get the problem resolved (e.g. a direct email address to someone at FB who can fix it).
I'm really not bitter...we'd probably enjoy a beer together in person :-)
back to the topic though...62 hours down and counting. It's intermittently and partially functional on Firefox (profile, info, and wall work read only. can't see the inbox, and can't reply to anything, invite, etc.), and completely down via Safari, IE, Opera.
Different message though:
Account Temporarily Unavailable.
Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes.
Wish us luck...

They haven't said what it is or when it will be resolved. I'm just finally getting replies to my emails. Check my last post for how to get in touch with them directly. I will re-post if I get anything more specific...stay tuned – strebby, on May 18, 2009 16:43
