What I said is exactly true quote "But if the main object is to control listening to Spotify through your hifi from your armchair, the solution is already here". What I suggest entirely achieves what you stated as your requirement in your post. The additional requirements introduced in your reply (and indeed what other posters in this thread wish) are a different matter and of course multiple portable all in one Spotify enabled devices such as squeezeboxes are what you need though of course you would need three separate subscriptions to allow all of them to stream at 320kbs simultaneously. – Stuart, on October 09, 2009 14:13

Keith you are so almost there. But if the main object is to control listening to Spotify through your hifi from your armchair, the solution is already here. For the price of a squeezebox you could get a second hand wireless-enabled laptop or netbook. Then with a minimal cost 3.5mm jack to 2x phono cable strung across to your Hifi, you can control both it, and any media server on your main PC, without getting up. With the added benefit of playing youtube videos etc. And if you don't like cables get a wireless audio streamer thingy. Or connect the wireless audio streamer thingy to the main PC and control spotify on that from the netbook using remote connection software. These are better solutions than the Magnus workaround (which has the great benefit of being zero cost to set up and I worked how to adapt it for the Evoke Flow) in that there is no time delay for the encoder.

Hmm. Not sure that Spotify would respond positively to what appears to be blackmail :} And is the Squeezebox even the most popular wifi internet radio player thingy anyway - the Pure Sensia might be better suited to Spotify's efforts. I'd love for the Evoke Flow range to be supported but the Sensia would definately be more suitable for the control of the Spotify UI. – Stuart, on September 25, 2009 22:19

Spotify on the Pure Sensia?Spotify would be great on the new Pure Sensia! (www.pure.com) There are already a few apps on this Wireless Touchscreen Internet Radio. And even better if support was added to the rest of the Pure Flow range.

Why not use it anyway! It's great! A cheap Logitech 2+1 setup will mean it sounds good on a PC anyway. – Stuart, on September 03, 2009 08:01

Abhi
I started to emulate your setup and downloaded the Media Monkey and the Edcast WinAmp plugin, but kinda gave up when I coudln't get MM to locate the plugin even though I installed it to both Winamp and MM plugin directory.
And it is yet another Itunes replacement media player, to add to Doubletwist, itunes Folder Watch, I'm starting to confuse myself with the complications!
My setup now is:
Spotify Premium, streaming through Edcast and Icecast at 320kbs, streaming to a port 8000 local URL, set up as a fake radio station on the Pure Lounge, so that it can be received on the Evoke. Sound quality limited by the sound card capture process, and I've turned off webpage click sounds so they don't come through the audio.
Local music collection stored on external 1Tb HDD, which I use itunes (beefed up with Itunes Folder Watch) to sync to my Ipod, and use Windows Media Server (through WMP) to provide sound-card independent streaming to the Evoke, which allows the Evoke to browse the track listings, Windows Folder structure, Artists etc.
So should I persist with also trying to get Media Monkey working with the Edcast plug-in, is there anything further to be gained? I don't want to break anything! – Stuart, on August 17, 2009 09:44

Abhi I have the same result, the metadata shows in Icecast but is not received at the Evoke. I take it you did as I did and created a pretend station on the Pure Lounge to point at the icecast/edcast streaming output.
For the benefit of the rest of the thread I suggested to Abhi that it would be possible to use Windows Media Player and point it to the same music library that itunes is using and then the playlist can be read on the Evoke. I assume the same would be possible on the squeezebox.
Why is it that the squeezebox is more popular than the Evoke, at least with the Spotify community? – Stuart, on August 16, 2009 00:13

Well after a reboot I tried increasing the bitrate, but I've now come across a more fundamental problem. First the Pure wound't connect to the lounge, then it would but didn't to the Spotify url. On the PC I couldn't even access the url through VLC media player.
I sorted that on the VLC by recreating an encoder in Edcast though the config was the same so I don't know what went wrong there. But even the stream that works on VLC wil not using either the Pure lounge or the Evoke Flow. I have reduced the bitrate back to what previously worked.
I don't know if something has to be set up in the router, I thought all ports would be available to devices on my own network. And it worked yesterday! – Stuart, on April 06, 2009 13:18

I am wondering about the best mp3 bitrate to retransmit on Edcast. The Pure Evoke Flow will tune into streams as high as 320kbs but the ogg transfer rate in the Edcast window is usually less than 260kbs. – Stuart, on April 06, 2009 11:34

Successfully streamed Spotify to Pure Evoke Flow!I used the technique from Magnus' post in the thread "Can you stream to a Squeezebox", i.e. using Edcast and Icecast2. (I replied in that post too). Now the Pure Evoke Flow doesn't directly allow for a URL to be entered at the radio end, but if you go to the Pure Lounge and add a custom station, just put the local URL (including port) e.g. http://192.168.0.2:8000/stream.ogg then you can find it in your favourites on the radio.
