Hi Jay, I just looked at your problem, and I did find that the claim your business link didn't work properly as you describe. However I also checked on google.com and it worked there.
So, if you search for your business on http://maps.google.co.uk and click 'claim your business' it only offers upload a new listing. But if you go to http://maps.google.com/ and search for your business then the 'claim your business' goes to a page with edit and claim options.
Hope this helps!

Google maps listings never get updated!I have uploaded a bunch of listings to the Google Local Business Center and the status for each is shown in my Dashboard. But the status never seems to change. They all just sit there saying "Awaiting next update". Will there ever be an update? It's supposed to take up to 4 weeks, but here's a screenshot of one of them that is still waiting and it is coming up for a year!

So long as the listing hasn't been claimed by a business owner, you can just edit the listing to correct it.
Click on "Hours and more »" or "reviews, directions, and more »" or whatever the actual wording under the listing is. And then look for the "Edit" link. There will be an Edit link if the listing hasn't been claimed.
If the listing has been claimed then the link will be "Add or edit your business" and then to edit it and correct it you need to validate / verify that you are the business owner - and that's where the fun starts!

If the listing has been claimed then the link will be "Add or edit your business" and then to edit it and correct it you need to validate / verify that you are the business owner - and as you mention this process is problematic to say the least, and the lack of any kind of human support option is very annoying.-

Maps verification name length limit too shortIn Google Maps / local business center when you validate your listing by post there is a field for Contact name - but it has a limit of only 20 characters. In large organisations where there is a central post room it is necessary to use this field so that the postcard with the PIN number gets to someone who knows what to do with it. But this is impossible with only 20 characters.
This is particularly important because the postcard will be sent to the old address, which may be incorrect - you might be wanting to change the incorrect address, but this can only be done by validation.
It's also disrespectful to people with names longer than 20 characters.

I have the same problem.
What's worse is that we have uploaded a correct listing to local business center and our correct listing is not shown, but the incorrect listing that Google came up with is shown. When I try to edit the incorrect listing there is nothing in the URL box. I wonder if that is the problem. There is no URL for the listing, so Google guesses.
