Suggestor reported a problem in Widgetbox on June 09, 2009 17:29:
Amazon Associate-ID sent on Header, but not Detail/Itemhere's a simple test widget - it simply does not work like it should. It only sends the associate-ID if you click on the top bar link. It does not send the associate-ID if you click on one of the feed items - i.e Book;
http://widgetbox.com/widget/associate...
This is based on an Amazon RSS feed. According to Amazon, it is working properly (on their end).
Thanks for any help, I tried everything I could think of..
(I am re-posting this to the proper thread - report a problem - thx - please help)

Suggestor replied on June 07, 2009 20:35 to the question "affiliate links in widgets" in Widgetbox:
I couldn't find many widgets that allow using my associate ID so I built my own. It was easier than I thought and they look pretty good and the associate ID works on the links at the top. However, if I use the (Amazon) PRODUCT links, it does NOT send the ID with the url (when the product is clicked on...).
Also, after that is solved, how do I make it configurable (i.e. a drop-down box) for other users to put their ID? - which is now required to release it to the gallery.
Is there any additional documentation on how this (associate-ID) could/should work?

Yes, I realize that. I would talk to the site if the entire site was not down. Perhaps you have an alternate method to contact the developer and/or find out if this is:
1) Only me?
2) Temporarily or permanently down?
3) Can you access the widgets within your site without experiencing very long time-outs? Or am I the only one? This question is paramount. If it is causing long time-outs on your site (it is when I try to access any widgets from this developer ON YOUR SITE), then YOUR site is broken, too. Perhaps you should REMOVE the offending widgets until the problem (with the developer's site) is fixed?
If this is NOT causing the long timeout delays on your site, then it must be 'ONLY ME' - I sure would like to know, though...
In the future, can I host the widgets (any widgets available on your site) myself? So I am not as dependent on the uptime of 'other' sites.
A comment on the question "affiliate links in widgets" in Widgetbox:
Dave, you say "You can only list it in our gallery if the affiliate ID is configurable to any user". I wish this were true. I find very few widgets in the 'gallery' that are configurable to my Amazon Associate ID (instead of the developers'). For example, I just tried the "New Deals. Every Day" widget by widgetpointer. After installing it on my site, when I click on a link in the widget (to display the item on Amazon), the Associate-ID sent (on the url line) certainly is not mine - it has 'rss...something' in it...
There's no way I'm about to use someone else's associate ID from MY site; so most of the Amazon widgets available on Widgetbox are useless (to me). – Suggestor, on June 04, 2009 14:01
Suggestor asked a question in Widgetbox on June 04, 2009 11:59:
Widgizit (Amazon search widgets) down for over 24 hoursThe widgizit site and widgets (amazon search and list widgets) been completely down (for me) for the last day. The error I get is "504 Gateway Time-out nginx/0.5.20".
These are very popular widgets (thousands of installs) - surely it's affecting not just me...?
(the widgizit widgets will not even load - for me - from within the widgetbox site)
Uptime is extremely important to me - a widget that causes a long time-out (and leaves a big open hole in my webpage) makes my site look bad/amatuerish - I would be very happy to host these (all my) widgets (for my uses) on my own server, if this were possible. This would take some of the load off the other (developers') servers and give me more control over uptime...
A comment on the question "Can't find a search widget" in Widgetbox:
I really like the (widgetbox) Amazon Browser. Is it possible (I will go 'Pro', if required) to modify/customize it with additional ECS parameters? i.e. specify an individual sellerid/merchantid, price range, etc? Also, could the response group be modified to include items like salesrank?
I have a rudimentary knowledge of ECS, but I don't want to re-invent the wheel/create this from scratch, if I can help it... – Suggestor, on May 22, 2009 16:53
