Just to clarify, it's bumptop you want to restart, not windows. – Sum1Else, on September 26, 2008 00:55

Ha, great. I wish I knew that sooner. Then I would've done a restart after installing Bumptop rather than fighting with it through the night, then wake up in the morning to find it works out because of restart. :P – Mitsugaru, on September 25, 2008 13:56

Sum1Else reported a problem in BumpTop on September 25, 2008 05:12:
Some icons are GONE!Icons simply don't show up sometimes. This is especially annoying when I'm editing a word document: every single time you change it, the item is actually deleted, then recreated. Sometimes Bumptop simply refuses to show an icon when it is created, and this results in the word document disappearing from my bumptop, while it still exists in my desktop folder. To restore it, I have to drag it out of my desktop and back for it to have a chance of showing up.
I think an easy way to fix this problem would be a "rescan desktop icons" option that doesn't reset the positions like the current one does, but runs through the list of icons on the real desktop, and adds missing icons. (Or have it do it automatically every minute or something.)

Then how come mine hasn't come. I've read that some people have only waited a week to a month. I've waited a year, and recently got a new e-mail account. I signed up again about two months ago and still nothing. – Niko Kruzel, on August 27, 2008 20:47

About Microsoft Surface and BumpTop-- Microsoft Surface is primarily a multitouch hardware platform. Microsoft has written applications for it of course but no general purpose desktop application as far as we know. BumpTop is software that completely replaces your desktop with a new 3D, physics enabled desktop. So, actually, Microsoft Surface would be a great platform for BumpTop--they're not mutually exclusive.

Bumptop is a computer application that replaces the desktop of a computer; Microsoft Surface is a literal table that you can manipulate things on. – Sum1Else, on August 25, 2008 05:25

Um... I have a video of me bumping a folder... Jing videos have a limit of 5 minutes though, so I had to skip some of the more... interesting parts... http://rurl.org/y4f – Sum1Else, on August 22, 2008 17:53

LOL
Can you comment about the time it takes to render the icons afterward?
Do you see any difference between small and large folders? – Gautham, on August 22, 2008 17:19

Ok, when I said minutes it may have been just that I was bored and had nothing else to do so I paid more attention to the computer.... – Sum1Else, on August 22, 2008 17:16

Yes... I can confirm that now. Tried a folder with some thousand files and folders and it took the same 19 seconds.
But rendering the icons take another 2 to 5 seconds. (Slight difference between one or many files).
Always exact 19 seconds for me. Used to take around a minute in the previous build.
When Clicking on "Bump this Folder", the window goes "Not Responding", becomes okay for a fraction of a second, again goes "Not Responding" and then finally folder gets bumped.

Actually, it's the same 1 to 2 minutes for folders of ANY size. The thing that depends on the size is the amount of time it takes all the icons to load AFTER the 1 - 2 minute pause where I'd assume bumptop was loading. – Sum1Else, on August 22, 2008 16:26

Very small folders... maybe 1 or 2 files.
I'm scared to bump huge folders for now. – Gautham, on August 22, 2008 16:05
