Susan replied on August 28, 2009 09:44 to the question "Emailing Members - not working" in Ning:
Interesting. *Thanks for replying*. I'm still a bit concerned about whether or not it's actually working because I used to get many auto-replies every day from the same members. I used to get the email myself. Now I don't see anything and my traffic is cut by 50%, my advertisers are *not* happy.
I really don't want to move this community out of ning, (and manually at that) but I will if I have to.

Susan replied on July 11, 2009 11:34 to the idea "Unhappy with Ning? Make a change" in Ning:
Here is just my two cents... I have been managing content and membership based web sites since 1997. I have used many different platforms. I am NOT a programmer and have relied on freelancers to get the work done. I have learned that the responsibility for platforms can be very laborious. I don't have the time, nor do I want to have to take the time to tinker. I don't want to have to worry about the latest patch, upgrade, hole, or the expense of having to maintain and fix them. For the last 10 years, I have run a large site with vbulletin. Every year I have to pay for a license. Every month I pay 120$ for a VPS. Then I have to sometimes pay a programmer for any extra features, hacks, or even repairs. Add it all up. vBulletin is a completely different animal in terms of framework, and I only mention it to compare costs and time required to maintain. Joomla is wonderful if you have PHP knowledge and you have the time to play, fix, and keep up. You still have to deal with hosting.
My experiences with Ning have varied from not great at all, (billing issues) to excellent (support queries). In terms of service, I would give them a 7/10 overall. Lately the help/support has improved.
With respect to reliability and product/service stability, I have to say that I am quite comfortable that my business won't be suddenly wiped off of the internet. I am comfortable with the pricing for services rendered.
To address accessability to our databases, I do agree that more access should be provided. I do understand why access is so closely guarded. I would like to see access afforded, perhaps by offering a more extensive plan for a few extra dollars. I do agree that membership levels annd permissions need some work. I'm sure it will come in time.
