Does it work when it is plugged in to the adaptor? If yes, you may need to replace the battery. I had a GO700 (not 720) and earlier in this thread, there was post of pictures of how to replace. I bought the battery and replaced it myself. It is working great since January 2009 and holds the charge etc.
If you/your husband a DIY kind, you may want to get it fixed yourself. See earlier posts on places to buy battery, power supply etc. Hope this helps

For those interested, and with help from Mo (previous post), check these sites for batteries for GO700 and other Tom Tom. http://www.megacapacity.com/23921.html, and http://www.longlast-battery.com. I have not purchased it but they seem good.
Now I need to figure out how to get it replaced whether by myself or thru some place. – sushant, on August 28, 2008 01:55

I would love to. I do not see any screws. Are they on the bottom of the unit where it fixes to cradle and masked by labels ? or do I need to pry remove the metal circular plate on the back of the unit ?
BTW, I checked Radio Shack website for a GO700 battery, search did not find, I put in a query and they told me they do not keep it. I have not called battery Plus but checked their website - no luck.
The only place I found a Go700 battery is from a site in UK. Thanks – sushant, on August 28, 2008 01:09

Anyone knows TomTom HQ or sr mgmt email/phone. The support gave me an address only as escalation based in MASS.
TomTom need to have disclosed their Battery replacement (i.e. not possible out of warranty) policy upfront - they did not. I have not heard of any battery that lasts more than ~2 years. This is not good. Most ridiculous thing.
Re - your problem, have you tried resetting (on the bottom using a toothpick or so) while plugged in to power and then hold the power on button for 3-5 secs. Then if it comes up, you may try going to their site and updating the app. Since there is no support from Mfr (:-(), everything you do is at your own risk !!
A sad state for all of us suckers..

How do I get battery replaced in a TomTOM GO 700 is USA? or get TomTom Support to improve?I have a TomTom GO 700 that only powers up after 30 minutes if plugged in. It will not power up without plugged in. I think its internal battery is dead and needs to be replaced. I updated latest TomTom software thru their website. I have talked to their support and had a very frustrating experience. They made me run around asking a bunch of questions back and forth for a week, got me fish out the sales receipt (who keeps sales receipt these days, but I found it). In the end, they say -- "it is out of warranty and there is nothing they can do to replace the battery or fix the unit". I have not heard of a device that costs several hundreds of dollars and mfr says "battery cannot be replaced and we won't do it". Actually I have had this problem 3 months before the supposedly warranty expiry date, but since I did not report it then, they wont do anything now being out of warranty by 2 months.
They have no suggestions for getting this fixed. They say they cannot replace the battery unless it is under warranty. They say they cannot repair it even if I want to pay for battery etc.
Any suggestions ?

I have a TomTom Go 700 whose battery is dead. It is technically out of warranty by 2 months though I have had the problem about 3 months before warranty expires.
TomTom says "They cannot replace the battery even at a fee because it is out of warranty, and they say it is out of warranty by 2 months -- nothing they can do". They offered me some measly discount on new products.
I do not think I am buying another TomTom. Where have you heard battery lasting lifetime of the unit ? I am not sure how they can operate as a business.
Anyone know US repair shops for Tom Tom ?-
