A comment on the idea "Text Message, SMS, updates from Mobiles to Ping" in Ping.fm:
Todd Jones marked one of Adam Lasnik's replies in Google as useful. Adam Lasnik replied to the problem "Why can't I turn off conversation threading in gmail; it's fatal for my business!". Todd Jones and 6 other people think it's one of the best replies.

GMail is a great service and has made my life a whole lot easier. But as a developer myself i must say that not having the ability to unthread is a big hassle. Especially for my bug reports, which customers always label the same...
Also gmail easily thinks of unrelated mails with similar titles as one conversation, when in fact its more... This is a big problem.
Thanks you !

Hi Todd,
It is possible you are in great shape with your accounts and we can't find anything better for you. Another possibility is that we are not getting the correct interest rate on your current accounts. You used to be able to edit this information by using the account page, but it seems to be missing at present. We are looking into this right now. You can however still view the interest rate by going to the transactions page, selecting the account you want, and looking near the top right of the page.

Thanks,
Jason

Although I can see how this new system works for many, it still doesn't work for me or anyone dealing with a mixed-use development with one street address. In my case I live in a large building with retail and restaurants on the ground level. I'd like to be able to check in publicly to a restaurant or gallery but not my actual residence. If we had actual private placemarks, this would work fine. Unfortunately, the setting of one (my residence) overrides another (a store) because we share the same address. I really hope this will be resolved in the future. This would seem a potential hassle for many folks. Thanks for taking the concept this far.
I would still really, really love to be able to toggle the Twitter feed easily *without* having to go into private mode. I don't actually care whether anyone knows where I live; I just don't want it pushed to Twitter every time I return home and dutifully check in. I also may go somewhere like a grocery store where I'd like to check in publicly but don't think the Twitterverse would care. In a perfect BK world, activity at certain placemarks could also be designated as being fed (or not) to Twitter (and perhaps future services), independent of privacy settings.

I've tried using gmail. It's faster than yahoo and has some great features. I love a lot about google in general ie. gmaps etc.. I retried it again starting a month ago. I just missed yet another email in "pile" in the inbox.
But it's waaaaayyy to easy to miss an email visually. The bottom line is that all of the arguments for gmail or any of it's features don't mean very much when you've missed the original email due to threading feature.
I understand why or how a company could develop something like gmail and not foresee how a feature would affect people. What's annoying is how many people hate this feature (there are reams of complaints on the net) and gmail continues to ignore it.
I don't know about anyone else but many, maybe most of my emails, consist of a message and a reply or two. I certainly don't want every conversation with someone "linked"!
I've used Yahoo mail for years. It's not perfect and isn't as "techy" as gmail. On the other hand, it works just fine w/o installing IMAP or anything else.....
Why fight it?

I know zimbra does, but most companies set zimbra up internally. Not sure if there are any public emails that use it – Todd Jones, on September 03, 2008 19:07

Hi Todd,
I'm the developer of the contact import feature for Zenbe. Can you give me any more details on the error message you are getting. A screenshot might be helpful as well.
Also could you provide the following:
the web browser and version you are using
the operating system and version you are using
Thank you,
Will

Def want a customizable Tab outside of just a Boxes widget thingy. In mine, I would want a giant google map with all the places I've checked into! And perhaps a sidebar with the list of my recent checkins and posts.
Also, the newsfeed item should contain a link to the brightkite page for that location so that friends sitting next to me checking out my profile can check in within two clicks (or easily sign up!)
Naturally, pictures taken at a location should also show up in the long newsfeed setting. – Timothy Moenk, on September 03, 2008 03:29
