Yes, Fraser, you've perfectly and clearly summed it up.

    That's exactly what happens.

As for the "snow" thing, I think Flickr should avoid this, since it's not very nice looking and draws unnecessary attention to images that should not be seen at all.

If Darkslide (and Flickr!) could just "skip" them, just like the ones that are marked "friend" when you're not a friend, it would be much better, in my humble opinion.

    Hi Fraser !

Well, after reading this, I borrowed my daughter's device again to test furthermore.

    • After last test, when I noticed she could see photos marked as "moderate", I went to the More/Settings and clicked on "Log Out".

But when I launched Darkslide again a few minutes ago, she was still logged in. I guess it's just a one-time problem, since I've tested it again and it worked ok.

However, at the next launch, I just had to click "Log in" and she was logged in automatically, without having to enter anything.

I tried again and this time, it required the password for the Flickr ID.

It seems this doesn't work reliably. Weird.

    • You suppose that, in our previous attempts, the "moderate" photos were incorrectly marked as "safe", but I can assure you that it was not the case. We always upload the photos as "private" only and double check the safety settings before making them available to "public" or "friends", to be sure we won't end up with such a problem.

So the self-moderation (which is a good thing) was not the issue, in that case.

    • To be certain, before answering to you, I double checked the safety settings of the latest photos in my wife's and my account. And they are all correctly tagged as "moderate" or "restricted" if they are not strictly "safe".

And I can confirm my daughter is able to see both "moderate" and "restricted" images, even though her account allows only "safe" and the setting works in Safari.

However, she can only see the "public" photos (which is normal, since I've just set her as a contact on Flickr). It seems the privacy setting is correctly handled, but not the safety setting.

    • In conclusion, I have before my very eyes the proof that, using Darkslide Premium 1.5 build aacd4fc, you can see "moderate" and "restricted" photos from a contact, even though the Flickr account you're logged in with allows only "safe" photos to be seen.

I've tested again and again: in Safari, she sees "static snow" instead of some photos, which is the normal behaviour with photos falling outside your safety setting. And in Darkslide, she simply sees these photos.

I can send you screenshots of Darkslide on her device, if you want, to prove this.

Tell me how I can help you investigate this matter, I'll be glad to help.

    Hi Fraser !

Once again, your answer was fast and to the point.

Well, it's really a shame the Flickr people thought of a great combination of safety settings and privacy settings, to allow everyone to use Flickr according to their choices and maturity, but didn't allow the APIs to use it !

I understand there's not much you can do at this point to solve this issue. I hope there's a solution in the works, though.

    That's on Flickr's blueprints, I hope.

As for the iPhone/iPod parental controls, it would be another good thing to help solve this issue, yes. Too bad it's not available for the 3rd party developers, either.

Same thing: great features, but not available where and when it would be most useful. Too bad.

As for my daughter, she's 12 and quite responsible and we created her account together and I explained her the ins and outs of Flickr and why she might see "static snow" instead of some images, even on my account (http://flickr.com/t/) or my wife's (http://flickr.com/zz/). She understood and won't ever think of changing her default settings (SAFE ONLY).

Some of our images include nudity and we set them as "moderate". The one that might be a bit more nude, even, are set to "restricted". That way, we are certain our daughter (and other people's kids !) will only see the very safe photos of our accounts.

She uses Flickr a lot, likes to look for funny or interesting images and share some of hers. And we are very happy with the tools that allow safe surfing for children and more open and varied features for willing adults.

That's why we were quite afraid after adding Darkslide Premium to our daughter's pod and saw photos she shouldn't be able to see. Luckily, they weren't very "sexual" and she didn't have the time to see them, anyway. We deleted the app and told her it had a bug and we will install it again when it will be solved.

She said "oh, no big deal, I'll use Safari, it's cool". Yes, it's cool. And we're relieved.

But this is a potential big issue, since it means our (or other people's) photos that were marked as "moderate" or "restricted" can be seen by people who might be schocked by them. And that's a big concern. And that's entirely the Flickr's developers fault, obviously. This is not consistent witht their very responsible and active policy of preventing this type of content from being available to unwilling people.

I hope you'll find a way around this and Flickr will enhance their API's to actually use the safety and privacy settings.

As for your children, I hope my testimony will be helpful. If you need more advice, don't hesitate to contact me, I'll be happy to help.

    Tapadh leibh !

Safety level setting not respected in Darkslide Premium 1.5
I've upgraded to Darkslide Premium 1.5.

    • But I had to delete it from my daughter's mobile, since she was able to see Safe AND Moderate photos, while her account is set to see ONLY SAFE photos.

I have not tested with Restricted photos, but this is already a big issue.

I don't want her to see photo that are not appropriate for her. This is a serious bug, for me.

    • Another bug (less serious) is that Darkslide report "0 views" on all "My Photos".

FlickrExport for Aperture 3.0.0b26 expired ?
    Hi !

I'm using FlickrExport for Aperture 3.0.0b26 and upon launching, I get the following error message :

    «FlickrExport Beta Expired
This beta of FlickrExport has expired. Please visit Connectedflow.com to acquire a new version.»

The thing is : when I go to the beta releases page http://connectedflow.com/flickrexport...), 3.0.0b26 is still the latest release.

Does it mean there is a delay in the new release availability or (it would be great) that the beta has ended and the final product is ready ?

I appreciate that and that's very honorable, but I begin to feel bad about using this freely, with all the work you've put into it.

And now I've discovered FlickrExport for Aperture through this version 3, I realy don't want to downgrade to version 2.

I thought you might be taking kind of pre-orders... :o)

Or does buying version 2 allow me to automatically upgrade to version 2? In which case I'll buy v2 right away and feel good while still using v3 ß.

    FlickrExport 3 license buy?
I'd like to buy FlickrExport for Aperture 3 already, because, even if it's still in beta, it's already become so useful for me I want to pay for the service.

    Is it possible?

FlickrExport 3.0.0b24 expired - no newer version available ?
    Hi!

And thanks again for your fast and nice answer about the name tag export.

Well, reading through the Get Satisfaction discussions, I noticed you mentioned the beta of version 3. I played the screencast (I love scottish accent :o) ) and thought that might be worth trying.

I downloaded the latest versiona available from that page. But when I first started it, even before I had a chance to enter the special serial included, I got the following error message:

    «FlickrExport Beta Expired

This beta of FlickrExport has expired. Please visit Connectedflow.com to acquire a new version.»

I went back to the site and couldn't find a link to download a newer version than 3.0.0b24 that I already downloaded and installed.

Maybe this means the open beta stage has ended? I couldn't find more information, neither on the blog or the special page.

Thanks for any information about this subject you can provide. There's no rush, really. I was just curious about the new features and if and how I could help you improve it, through (hopefully) helpful reports.

    Anyway, I can't wait until I can spare £14 (wow, that's almost €18, damn, I thought euro was a strong currency ;o) )

    Best regards,

    Thierry

Set Flickr "Title" from "Version Name" ?
Hi! I've tried "FlickrExport Lite for Aperture" and I was disappointed to see that it doesn't seem to be able to use the "Version Name" metadata as a "Title" for the exported image. Is it because it's the light version or is a feature to be added?
