Tassie asked a question in Sunbelt Software on February 09, 2009 10:42:
Is Vipre becoming a bloated suite ??My current desktop protection is Norton AV plus Firewall and Counter Spy. When the sub. to Norton runs out shortly my current consideration is Vipre and Sunbelt Firewall.
Looking for information on Vipre, I viewed two web sites which makes me wonder if Vipre can remain slim and trim.
(1) http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter...
(2) http://www.heise-online.co.uk/securit...
(1) Is a summary of changes made to Vipre some time ago in USA and to be implemented in the UK this month, here in Australia ??? Apparently called Vipre Enterprise. Note a firewall is to be added later.
(2) Provides a more detailed interview with Sunbelt CEO. 50 - 60MB definitions update implies many changes.
I have made a brief search for USA web sites to get user reactions. Would be interested in the file size for Vipre Enterprise, current Vipre 70MB.
Would appreciate any information on this question an possible web sites for details.

HI Eric. Thanks for your speedy reply. cleared up some confusion.
Will install Sunbelt Firewall and Vipre on the new laptop and the same on the desktop when Norton AV plus Firewall runs out. Have Counter Spy.
After posting my question I did a Google search and came up with

Is Sunbelt Firewall necessaryCurrently using a desktop intend to get a laptop as well plus a modem / router with its own firewall. The need for a software firewall is a bit confusing Looking at www.sunbeltsoftware.com/
(1) I note in FAQs note one apt question. Q I have a firewall on my router, do I still need a software firewall. A is basically yes
(2) Looking at the Firewall Users Guide P9, Sec1-5 "Conflicting Software."
Network Firewalls, also protect computers and it is not necessary to run a personal firewall.
The above seem to conflict, comments appreciated

Problem with Version 3 upgrade ,currently 2-5-1043. Went to download new definitions last night and was advised software update available. Started to download but gave up after 45 minutes, blue progress bar had long since traveled full extent and modem had also ceased flashing for some time.
So all that was possible was Ctrl - Alt - Delete. Tried above twice.
Tonight - A green tick against most recent software but still 2-5 1043.
Downloaded definitions 866 to 868 OK.
Where to from here? Thanks for any helpful replies.-
