tatango_alex replied on July 15, 2009 17:53 to the question "How does it work?" in Tatango:
It's very easy to do, thanks for your question!
When you login into the website with your mobile phone number, create your first group and then you're all set to start inviting your group members! You can simply copy and paste email addresses into the Email Invite form, or you can have members join the group by texting a custom Join Keyword to 68398.
From there, you will be all set to start sending Tatango group text messages! You can send your messages straight from your account on the website, or you can send messages from your mobile on the go! Just send your text message (with a # sign at the beginning) to 68398. Your message will be received by everyone in the group instantly.

Due to abuse by promoters, we were forced to pull custom bounce-back messages from Tatango.com.

Voice Messaging is no longer a feature on Tatango.com. Our premium model (http://tatango.com/subscription) offers full 160-character group text messaging, and our ramped up FREE service, launching in 60 days, will offer photo, video, link, voice, and even file sharing!

With carriers now charging up to 5 cents per message, there is no way for us to sustain ourselves as a free text messaging service any longer. Be sure to check out Tatango Direct ( http://tatango.com/subscription ) for full 160 character group messaging. We are undercutting all competitors, as we have established ourselves as the leader in the industry.

Look out for Tatango 3.0 launching next month, and let me know if you have any questions at all. I hope you guys choose to stay onboard.

It's a progression towards 3.0 - the site will only be improving in a month, not going in a new direction or changing. – tatango_alex, on May 01, 2009 00:49

JC,
You are on the paid service and should not have been switched over. Sorry for the mix up. Can you shoot me a quick email (alex@tatango.com) with the mobile number that your account is under, and I'll reactivate your Direct Messaging account.
A comment on the question "text messages received as an html link?" in Tatango:
Jerry, if you could add more content (photos, videos, links, voice messages, even files) to your messages, the interface was completely geared towards groups, and you could send alerts with a link to the Group Profile, would you use the service?
Let me know! Tatango 3.0 will keep you more connected with your group than text messaging ever could. – tatango_alex, on April 30, 2009 18:04

Hang tight for Tatango 3.0 launching next month Robert. I know the paid service is out of your budget with the amount of texts you guys send, and the current free service may not seem like a smart move, but once you see Tatango 3.0 I promise you you will be blown away.
I appreciate all your support throughout your time on Tatango. Stay in touch - you are one of the first users I want onboard when we launch! – tatango_alex, on April 30, 2009 17:58
