A comment on the question "BC" in Dipity:
I'm also waiting for this feature. I make instructional technology recommendations to several hundred faculty members at my university, and I'd really like to be able to recommend this tool over xtimeline, but the lack of BC support is a deal breaker. – dstanford, on October 03, 2008 21:23

Hey ganeshpuri89,
I was just wondering if we can address your original problem. We have gotten reports of a similar problem. Did you get the "Oops! Looks like the topic you're looking for doesn't exist" after changing your timeline permissions? Do you remember the sequence of events that led up to the timeline being unavailable?
Thanks,
Ryan

I have this problem, too. My timeline- whose only source is my Google Reader shared items feed- is not updating automatically. My timeline is http://www.dipity.com/user/mbfortson/... .
A comment on the problem "Timeline not updating automatically" in Dipity:
Thanks for responding, BK. :>) The last time the timeline was updated was around 4:30 am this morning. But that wasn't an automatic update. I fed an RSS feed to it at that time and the timeline updated with some items from that feed. However, I'm certain timeline is not updating feeds automatically. Don't know if it's a problem with feeds or Dipity.
Here are three feeds:
http://www.google.com/reader/public/a...
http://www.google.com/reader/public/a...
http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&tab...
The first two are Google Reader. Of those two, the first should update whenever Dipity pings it because it is a category in my Google Reader which is constantly updated (I have about 75 blogs in that category). The second is the feed to all Google Reader items I tag with "Qaeda". I usually do this once a day. I've fed about a dozed GR tags to Dipity. Which means if Dipity pings that feed it may not be updated as I only tag once or twice a day.
As to the third feed, that's a Google News rss feed, which should supply new items every few hours when pinged.
To conclude, only time Dipity updates my timeline is if I load a new feed. I loaded the last one around 4:30 - 5:00 this morning, although timestamp on Dipity item shows time as 2:30ish, which is when item was published by author (nice programming on Dipity's part).
Thanks BK, hope that info helps.
Have to head to work, but have my BlackBerry with me.

Hi Ganeshpuri, can you let us know when the last time the timeline updated was? Our feed updater has been running for the last couple days, so if it's missing this timeline we'll figure out that problem.
Also, we're going to be changing our architecture going forward to allow users to get more frequent updates when their feeds update.
BK Gupta replied on September 19, 2008 21:09 to the problem "Topic Timeline completely disappeared." in Dipity:
Hi Ganeshpuri, when I try to access the timeline it comes up. We have an engineer looking at what's going on with it now, and why it may be coming up for some and not others. This is strange though.
GetSatisfaction is absolutely the place to voice your frustrations about feed updating or anything else about Dipity. It's how we grow, and we hope you'll keep letting us know what's working well and whats not working well.
Thanks,
BK

Typically I cover two sides of a pr crisis and then media coverage. In most of my examples I would use three, maybe four colors max. Protagonist, Critic, and Media. Maybe I would segregate media into two colors online vs msm), maybe not. Here's some examples that I've embedded into my columns at prnewsonline.com:

Definitely agree. With 2 and up to 5 or even 10 sources, different colors are the best way to identify them with a glance. – lucas, on September 18, 2008 17:51

BK Gupta replied on September 16, 2008 23:51 to the idea "Different editor/source = different color" in Dipity:
Hi guys, we did evaluate doing different colors per source but decided to do things a little differently. In our new Dipity 2.0 product we're going to have flags represent the type of sources instead of the editors.
With some timelines there are dozens or even hundreds of editors. We felt that it was most important to show the contents and content types first, and show the editors once you clicked on the event.
If we get a little more information on why you're trying to set apart events from different editors we may be able to come up with a better solution.
Thanks,
BK

Hi again
- let me try to clarify:
I have no trouble getting the actual events to load/show.
It is ONLY in the topic listings that my timeline seems to be empty
http://www.dipity.com/search/2?query=...
same in ie6, ie7 and firefox

Hi runem, this timeline loads with the events when I try to access it. There's a few possible culprits. Can you let us know what browser version you're using and what Operating System? Also, you may want to try deleting your browsers cached data.
Lastly, this could be a case where the timeline is loading way too slow. If you leave the page for a minute or two after it loads does it ever come up?
Thanks.

Thanks BK. I think part of the problem is that the invitation email gives them two links. One to the timeline (which the can't see because they are yet to become my contact) and another to see my profile. It seems to me that the link to the timeline should allow them to become my contact AND show them the timeline. Or something like that :)
I appreciate your prompt reply and trust that you'll take a look at this. We are using this tool for many things. You guys have done an incredible job with it. THANK YOU.
