No no its not gone... unfortunately :-)
You just wrote 20 days ago that you will fix it in the upcoming update and yesterday I updated to beta 11. Thought it should be fixed so I piped up that I still could reproduce it. Didn't know that this fix has not been implemented yet ;-)
    But it doesn't matter

A comment on the problem "Fan out won't lock/unlock" in BumpTop:

    Tazz
    Oh boy... that did it:
Start the fan out, press any letter or number on the keyboard to start the search-on-type.
Also when pressing DEL and confirm the prompt with No you can not continue the fanout and will not see the red X.

(btw. should we use the forum or either more the "send feedback" option or even both? ) – Tazz, on August 21, 2008 01:35

Had it too but could not reproduce such long fanouts again but working on it ;-)
But even when you drag the fanout just a few millimetre away from the beginning no red X will appear

My suggestions, improvements and annoying things
First of all thank you for letting me test your product. During the use of bumptop some things cross my mine which I directly wrote down into a txt-file. Now I'll try to parse it into this forum but translated in English. ;-)
The list contains some (not sorted) annoying thinks and some which should be implemented in my point of view because some of them did have the good old windows desktop too and some thinks which could be improved or added.

    1. When using "grid -> Sort by Type" .txt files e.g. are sorted before folders.
And if you add new icons into this grid they will added in the first place (upper left corner) regardless in which place you drag and drop that icon.

    2. You got the nice feature "search-on-type" which is great but you have to type very fast if you try to type in a very long phrase. That should be improved.

    3. You got shrink and grow but you should also have the option to scale back the icon to the normal size.

    4. The fan out should be improved:
If you drag the line just a few distance then right or left click the line of icons get stuck, the big red X won't show up and you can not arrange them any longer and have to restart bumbtop.

4.2 Furthermore the arrangement of icons is very difficult. You can not easily drag and drop them to the right place if you want to. Sometimes moving is vice versa or doesn't even work at the beginning or end the fan out line.

4.3 Furthermore after clicking on "fan out" the mouse-cursor should jump to the pie elsewhere the path will move a bit to the left before you can drag it along the desktop:

4.4 fan out -> remove from pile -> will reduce structure to the pile. maybe just remove only the single icon and arrange fan out structure new.

    5. You can not easily pile two piles without moving one pile into each other.

    6. Sometimes after resetting the layout by clicking on the tray icon you get moved to the good old windows desktop but bumptop is still opened. After clicking on the bumptop tray icon you see an empty bumptop desktop. (Sorry can not give you steps to reproduce it... maybe later. Happened four times)

    7. You can not "expand to pile" two or more selected (piled) folders or icons.

    8. Following scenario:
You got e.g. a "test.txt" file and some other icons. You pile them and collapse them to a new folder and give them the name "test folder" (e.g.). Now you create a NEW so called "test.txt" file on you desktop. Now when you expand the "test folder" to pile and click on break pile you get asked if you want to move the contents to the desktop... ok by now. If you click "yes" you get asked (windows prompt) if you want to replace the "test.txt" file by the one of the "test folder" if you click "no" you get asked again and again until you click "yes".... I would recommend that the "test.txt" of the "test folder" get deleted if you click "no" for not overwriting. But looks like a windows <-> bumptop conflict...

    9. You should also have that windows desktop feature "Align to Grid" for un-piled icons. So that the icons alignment themselves and are not twisted...

    10. Search (Ctrl+F) should open the green (hud) on screen-display search function known from search-on-type and no window prompt

    11. A new 3rd Desktop alternative: the standard "2D" windows desktop, just the infinite BumpTop without the infinite. ^^ So a normal plain desktop with all functions but with a constant size.

    12. Some icons gut ugly edges

    13. Drag and dropping icons on application icons will launch the application. Prevent that by an option entry in the hopefully upcoming settings window or let the user confirm this operation first.

    14. Adding photo frame -> double click on that frame to zoom into it -> right click choose more, slideshow -> every mouse move will drag this photo frame... you can shake it around and stuff like that

14.2 when you got more photo frames, zoom into one of them by double clicking and click on the right arrow you should move (normally) to the photo frame on the right but its vice versa. (strange have tested it again, now it's correct... AAAH got it, if you change the order of the frames, a b c to a c b, THEN its vice versa!)

    15. grids can be attached to walls but looks strange:
(strange... also all icon names disappeared but had nothing to do with 15. ;-))

    16. Missing access like selecting "properties of desktop" which give you the windows display window where you can choose you screensaver and stuff like that. Right click on free space -> more -> properties: will give you access to the desktop FOLDER properties

    17. Grid should be realizable.

17.2 also add sorting options on the grid surface so you don't have to use the pie thing

    18. some text on the pie option thing overlap one another. *FIXED*

    19. Rename icons without the prompt screen, like on normal desktop by slow double clicking.

    20. just for the beta: add a restart option for bumptop.

    ---------------------------------------------

    *New things added:*

    21. Unable to open a desktop folder called bumptop

    21. Should be able to select several icons by holding CTRL

21.2 Also should copy icons by dragging them and hold CTRL

    22. Reduce the height of the "Bump! This Folder" button

    ---------------------------------------------

    *New things added Fr. 22.08.2008:*

    23. Transparent bug:

    24. Cutting a folder and pasting it back to the desktop will automatically move the folder to recycle bin

    ---------------------------------------------

All in all let the user although do everything with bumptop what he can do with the good old windows desktop, align to grid, auto arrange, arrange icons by: name, size, type modified and so on and give them access to the desktop properties. Then it will be a good replacement.

That's all for now... if I'll found some more interesting things I let you know, if you like :-)

(btw. I am still in the process of correcting spelling mistakes ;-)

See the weather outside a window
Following. Haven't get the beta yet... unfortunately :-(
But the new 3D Desktop looks like a room for me. Whats about adding a window to this room? Okay thats not a big feature BUT now show the current weather outside through this window. Voilà it's a awesome feature. :-) You should choose the weather and display of any location based on a big world wide weather page and not just the US weather. Furthermore you should, if you like to, add more windows to see different weather locations. But you should also see the location displayed under or above the windows.
By displaying the weather I mean if its rainy you see the rain or raindrops on the window. If its sunny you see the bright sun, and so on...

This idea cross some seconds my mind... what do you think about it?

    //added:
If you are not connected to the internet you see roller blinds or close-drawn curtains

    //added:
And if you want to see the current temperature you should be able to place a thermometer on one of the room walls.

Just 2 ideas... something like a gadget
