A comment on the discussion "I love how they just toss the leftover sushi." in Whole Foods Market:
I received additional, item specific, shelf life information this morning. 5 days on cooked sushi products and edemame. 1 day on sashimi and fresh fish sushi. 30 days on pickled plum, and Tsuke. I hope this information helps. – Jessie , about 9 hours ago

cordless replied about 20 hours ago to the problem "You cannot get a prepaid iPhone plan from AT&T unless you are a deadbeat!" in AT&T:
I agree that the situation is unfortunate. more so because of the the overly heavy-handed terms Apple has inflicted upon at&t. I recently joined the usability team at at&t mobility and while I tend to share your view of at&t (and all cell carriers in general) I have had a very up close and personal experience with the apple mandate within at&t. In short, at&t was so desperate to carry the iphone they sold their, and our, control over the plan structure for an iSong.
My suggestion is to hold off on any iphoneuntil after the 2nd version and after it's unlockable without having to jailbreak it. Hopefully a competitor with an opensource mentality will come along and cater to the user community more effectively.
On a side note, I joined the at&t mobility team to work on the microsoft surface table experience. Apple made it very lear early on that they will never, ever permit an iPhone to interact with the Surface interface. They are very nearly violent about the issue. Sometimes I feel like an ant caught in a thanksgiving parade route when these overweight mega-ego companies get going at eachother.
I bought the nokia n95 8g. not a touch interface but a seriously cool phone just the same.
cheers

My iPhone fell into a cup of water today, only the top half was submerged and I pulled it out immediately, but of course it had to be the headphone jack end. I dried it off and rushed it to the genius bar only to be told the water seal is broken and they can't do anything. The guy was a total jerk to me as I cried in the middle of the Apple store, all I wanted was my phone numbers! So now I'm trying to let it dry out in my car in the heat and I'm going to put it in a bag of uncooked rice tonight. Anymore suggestions for me? When it first happened it looked fine, then lost service. So I tried to turn it off and then the apple logo showed up and then it went dead. AHHHH this thing is like my child! My whole life is in that phone!

Hello All, I wanted to take this opportunity to join this disccusion and perhaps shed some light on a few issues. i have checked with the Cupertino store for more information regarding their sushi. As it is with many of our stores this the sushi is provided by a 3rd party company. The product must still meet our strict quality standards, but they determine the shelf life according to HACCP guidlines. Two days is the maximum shelf life, but as the safety mantra says, 'when in doubt, throw it out.'
Many of our stores will give away day old bread, produce and damaged, non-perishable packaged goods as long as they are still in the package and not spoiled. However, some food banks and charitable organizations have their own guidlines about what they will and will not take and will sometimes refuse what we offer. There are numerous liability issues here, both for these organizations as well as us.
Thor - making sushi for the day is a great idea. In fact, that is the plan we generally follow in any of our prepared foods areas. We look at last years sales and make projections. Actually, this process is followed in every one of our departments and affects production, staffing and ordering. If you think about it, we lose money by having to throw product away, so that's not really good business sense.
Regarding 'Whole Paycheck', I have heard that one since I started in 1997 and i'm sure it's been around quite a bit longer. The truth is, like Slaton said, we carry quite a few specialty and high end items which are quite expensive, but our private label products as well as our sales items offer a great value for customers that may be looking for high quality natural and organic products without spending a lot of money.
Amy - i'm glad you're not a hater.
please let me know if I can further address any questions. I'm really glad to participate in this discussion, this is a really great forum for connecting with our customers. Take care - Jessie

I spilled beer on the bottom of my iphone on the right speaker and the charger port. it wasnt much but the message about changing to airplane mode popped up instantly and kept coming up for the rest of night night and next day, it still comes up sometimes but rarely now. the right speaker doesnt work. but the phone does still. the top water sensor in the headphone jack is white but i hear there is a second one, could this one be damaged if i spilled on the speaker? i spilled friday night, its now monday morning, and my battery wont last 2 hrs. is a broken speaker and bad battery enough to get a new iphone? thanks

I dropped my iphone in the pool....it stayed submerged for 2 minutes until I dove to the bottom and got it. It did not work. I drove to Orlando, and of course, the Genius bar saw that the water seal was busted, they turned me away. 3 days later, I charge the phone, and VOILA....it works. Now what? is there anyway to exchange it?

borisd replied 3 days ago to the question "Why is facebook so slow lately?" in Facebook:
"It seems like the Facebook engineers add another javascript and css file to their pages with every new feature. As of today, viewing the Facebook homepage loads 36 javascript files from Facebook and 4 more from advertisers. In addition to these 40 files, there are 12 css files.
That’s a lot of files! If you’ve ever noticed the excessive flickering happening in your browser’s status bar when you go to Facebook, this is the cause.
How can they improve the situation? The total file size isn’t too terrible at about 100k of JS and 40k of CSS. The best thing to do would be to use a simple build script that concatenates all these files together into one larger file. If they can’t do that for some reason, they could at least serve the files from more than one domain to take advantage of parallel downloads in the browser. They could also try a service like Akamai, but that’s a bit more complex and expensive.
This seems like a really silly oversight from an organization that in general produces beautiful work. My guess is that when the company was getting started they set up a relatively simple build process that has now become ingrained and difficult to alter as their setup has quickly become larger and more distributed. However, they’ve reached the point where it’s time to revisit things and do it properly."

Larry replied 3 days ago to the problem "7 character passwords suck" in Get Satisfaction:
I think satisfaction should allow special characters in the passwords or at least tell people that special characters are not allowed.
Most of my passwords have special characters and the system just tells me that the passwords do not match - when they do.
special characters - good
unhelpful error messages - bad

the one-time fee went up to $20 at the start of 2008; first rise in a looong time. Very much worthwhile; definitely pays for itself.
Some o' the benefits of joining this member coop:
10% dividend on all full-price items you buy in a year (comes out annually)
Several 20% coupons during the year
Two major sales/year: anniversary (May 2-11, 2008 = 70 years) and fall
Used gear "garage sale" for members only: returns that are still usable, promo pieces, etc. up to 70% off, check your local store for when these happen; in the Bay Area, they're staggered to different days of the month for the different local stores.
Discounts on the Outdoor School (in-store classes, and short local trips) -- many of which are alreay free, grin!
If you lose your receipt, you can still return stuff if you need to, since REI's record-keeping is your proof o' purchase.
If you lose or forget your member card, they can always look you up by phone # or name.
Love these folks: from the search for a better ice axe in 1938, on down to now, the gear is worth that 100% guarantee.
Being privately held, they get to keep to that long-term planning, good in the long long run for biz.
Fine print: I started working with REI this past spring on the customer service / cashier line, so I'm probably biased, but these are among the reasons I chose this place to work PT. Nice spread of folks/age ranges to work with.
