Two suggestions:
You should add a "backup" feature for the Mac app, so that when we have to perform tasks like this, we can backup beforehand just in case.
Under the Mac App preferences, where you can "resync" data, you should put a little spinning wheel there to show something is happening after you hit the resync button.
