Side-splitting plurks: frozen in time?Plurk has a strange little bug that pops up quite frequently for me. It's partially a function of how I use the service (read: chaos-driven catching-up-on-responses), but the effects are pretty deep, so I thought I'd better say something.
Occasionally, I'll be reading a plurk on the far left side of the screen, like so:
It's a short one, but quite exciting...ooh, what's that over there?
I then become interested in a plurk that is far to the right side of the timeline, or even not entirely visible, and click on it:
Notice that although the timeline scrolled enough to view the new plurk, the responses from the most recently viewed plurk are still visible, and disjointed from the topic.
And the worst part is, now the timeline is entirely borked. There's no response whatsoever to clicks, keyboard commands, mousewheel scrolls, anything. Not even the "My Profile" button at the top works. The problem seems to be localized to the timeline – the plurk entry box seems fine, and I can access My Friends, Alerts, etc. – but there's no way to read or respond to existing plurks without refreshing the entire page.-

Highlight responses by the plurk author differentlySo I'm going through and checking all my several dozen new responses at the beginning of the day, and I had a thought: much of the time, I'm checking plurks specifically for the plurk author's response. So...
Currently: when someone replies to a plurk, the number of responses lights up hot pink to show that there is unread convo happening.
Like this.
What if: the number turned a different color - say, electric blue - when the plurk's author replies (i.e., if at least one of the new responses is by the author)? Otherwise, it would still be hot pink for new responses.
Kind of like this.
Just an idea. Take it or leave it. You won't break my heart if you don't do it :3
Telperion replied on September 08, 2009 00:28 to the question "Change Plurk Link on Facebook" in Plurk:
This topic should have been laid aside by now. Charlie Profit asked a simple question, Amir gave a simple answer, Charlie Profit asked for clarification, Amir responded.
Temporary end of story. Nothingwillshould happen now until a quorum makes itself heard for change. And I'm not sure how big a quorum is in this case but I'm pretty sure it's not fifteen-or-so. When we get one, I think we will see results. But not until, and that's the way it should be.
I just don't feel that personal attacks on the Plurk lead or specific Plurkers and their followers are furthering anybody's cause.
I want a good, old-fashioned Plurk poll.

I would suggest that even a social media/ntwk site can't change without much forethought and analysis into how it will affect their image.
If I was a faithful patron of a hamburger stand because their hamburgers were simply AMAZING, I would worry if they started offering hotdogs just because there was a hotdog movement. So many people still like hamburgers, and I wouldn't want the hamburgers to suffer. – Telperion, on September 07, 2009 22:23

aack! my apostrophes!I've got a slight problem: when I'm linking to a web page in a plurk (topic or response), any apostrophes in the alt text disappear.
e.g.: http://paste.plurk.com/show/13787 (a thought I've been having for a while) turns into "a thought Ive been having for a while".
Haven't tried it with any other punctuation to see if it's a problem. The apostrophe's still there when I attempt to edit it back in, too.-

A comment on the question "how do I edit/delete a reply plurk?" in Plurk:
"As long as you are the most recent response" would be perfect. One thing that kept me from asking for the edit-response is that possibility of reverse editing to make it look like you said something you didn't originally. But this would be great. – Telperion, on October 15, 2008 17:15-

Blocked users shouldn't remain fansI needed to block somebody tonight (@ringernation) - he had just submitted his fifth or sixth friend request to me, and I'd had enough. So I blocked using the pop-down menu on his name. But then, for the fun of it, I decided to check and see if he was still on my fan list...and there he was.
Problem is, why can a blocked user be a fan of the blocker? Either the presumptive friend is still able to view the plurks (thus defeating part of the block), or they're a fan of someone they're unable to follow (wha?). Either way, blocked users should probably be kicked out of the fan list too.-
