Delete, don't truncate URLsTruncating at 140 characters often chops up URLs. Can Twitterfeed back up to the start of http:// (or https://) and delete all of the URL instead of creating invalid (or worse) links? See http://identi.ca/notice/1548123 . Detecting whether it's a URL requires backing up until you find http:// https:// or whitespace.

terris replied on August 25, 2008 22:23 to the idea "140 character limit" in Ping.fm:
Good reply but not really new information. I apologize for not being more clear, but I think that ping.fm should ask the user what to do AFTER the user clicks send/post and the altered message is too large when directed to a service that has limitations. Of course there could be defaults because most users would want messages to be chopped up into multiple messages, but there is always the chance that users would want to shorten the messages.

140 character limitI think if my message turns out to be > 140 characters for identi.ca or twitter.com, the message should not go out or ping.fm should ask if the message should be chopped up into multiple messages. Due to URL rewriting it is not completely easy to know when you've gone over the limit.

http://identi.ca does it right. No need to wait for Twitter to get their house in order.

Reply-To is brokenWhen I "reply to" a comment it would be nice if Twitter would link to the actual comment I'm replying to, not to the person's latest comment that consistently has nothing to do with what I replied to.
