terryj replied on September 29, 2009 20:12 to the question "Miro used to find subfolders in my Movies Folder. It doesn't seem to find them anymore! Why?" in Participatory Culture Foundation (Miro):
This is a long standing bug with Miro.
I too do the same thing, and how I fix it is,
wait for it,
create a new folder at the root of where my media is and then drag everything into that, then make Miro update All Feeds!
ex.
My TV Shows are on a drive called (natch) TV SHOWS.
I add series called say, um, Heroes ( create folder)
I then create a folder for the current Season ( Season 4)
I then add episodes to the Season 4 folder.
Miro doesn't see them.
I try to run "Update All Feeds" and it still doesn't see them.
I then go back to the root of the drive, create a folder at
the root of TV SHOWS called "NBC".
I then drag the Heroes folder and all of its sub folders within into
the NBC folder.
Now, I then make Miro reupdate All Feeds.
Succcess, Miro has magically found new episodes!
yeah, I know, I slap my head on that one too.
As soon as I can, I plan on making a bugzilla, but I've been too
busy as of late, and I just work around it.
What it seems to me is that Once Miro Scanned the Drive
(TV SHOWS) the db it made of it somehow could not
update and it got just what was once there on that 1st scan.
But putting stuff in to sub folders ( or renaming folders sometimes works,
but 100% of the time creating a new folder at the root always works)
messes with it's db snapshot if you will.

I second that Dean.
Can't you guys just somehow make it hand off to VLC's engine
to make it handle DVDs, like you guys make QT handle everything
else? What about just requiring users to buy the QT for Mpeg-2
component from Apple, for DVD Mpeg-2 Playback, and then have it process DVDs through Quicktime?
terryj replied on August 10, 2009 19:57 to the problem "Showtime Californication feed doesn't display episodes at all although it appears to download. After that, no downloaded content can be seen. Same behavior on MacosX and Windows." in Participatory Culture Foundation (Miro):
Well, as a person who DOESN'T use Miro for what it was originally intended for ( Podcasting/Vidcasting client) and instead uses it as a lowend Mac
Home Theater PC app, I get this all the time and I've gotten used to it.
:-)
That being said, JED is just trying to give the "official party line" of Miro to protect the interest of the developers, which truly isn't to circumvent copyright.
However, I can say with this last release of Miro ( 2.5), perhaps someone
is beginning to wake up to the fact that Miro is being used for much,
much more than podcatching/vidcatching.
And to be honest, JED didn't see what was offered in the guide,
and I know I NEVER even use the Guide ( and wish there was a way to
turn it off to save resources). There's probably enough in there, that
on any given day, no one knows what is all offered in the Miro guide.

have created a new bugzilla on the issue:

terryj asked a question in Participatory Culture Foundation (Miro) on August 01, 2009 04:49:
VOTE on my bug / feature!go to bugzilla and please vote on my bug / feature request to get alphanumeric sorting of playlists into Miro. The more people that vote on it, perhaps the developers will hear our
cries of adding useful features to the Miro Player!

TIA!

Youtube videos don't download through Video SearchLaunch Miro 2.5. Select Video Search.
Type in "Superman/Batman" in search box.
The first or second video that comes up,
"First Look: Superman/Batman" select it and click download.
Nothing happens, it just says "starting up" after 1/2 hour.
Video is there on Youtube, going through Safari outside of Miro 2.5,
you can search directly on youtube and play the video.

Oh, C'MON YOU GUYS!!!Miro 2.5 gets released and we STILL DON'T HAVE ALPHANUMERIC SORTING OF PLAYLISTS?
the launch time isn't any faster on my system than Miro 2.0.4,
the guide still doesn't load half the time, yeah audio is niice,
but I mean C'MON already!!! Can we users get something useful???
I have iTunes if I want Audio...Miro's core value is VIDEO.
CAN WE PLEASE GET ALPHANUMERIC SORTING OFPLAYLISTS????
terryj asked a question in Participatory Culture Foundation (Miro) on July 10, 2009 19:40:
In List mode, Miro 2.0.5 doesn't list the runtime ( total length) of a video.Added several .avi files to my media storage drive, told Miro to update all feeds.
Updated feeds for "movies" and listed new titles, play/unplayed status, and date added, but does not show length of video (0.0 hrs) in list mode.
toggling back and forth between list and icon view doesn't fix it.
The videos in question are .avi files created with VisualHub from DVDs that I own.
The problem is also sporadic: out of the last 4 .avi files that I put into
my Media Storage Driver, only 2 showed up with correct length, 2 did not
( field is blank). Tried another import of 3 .avi files, only 1 showed length.
will and bugzilla, but wanted to know what could be done to attempt a fix?

Make sure to install latest Perian on your system first.

terryj replied on May 28, 2009 18:13 to the question "apple tv and miro: can they play together?" in Participatory Culture Foundation (Miro):
I think you miss the point.
Apple TV, Miro and Plex all COMPETE against one another
in the same space ( Digital Asset Management, Home PC Theater).
AppleTV is a "settop" box type environment that is proprietary to
itself, much like a DIVX type playback device or a TIVO.
It can only handle it's own media type, doesn't accept other media types
(without hacking) and is meant strictly for delivery and not much else.
Plex and Miro, on the other hand, embrace a wider range of formats,
require you to have the hardware to meet specifications,
and and can not only do delivery, but can also ( in some cases
with hacking) do other things as well ( torrent serving,
Internet searching, etc.)
Apple TV is for those who want a "plug and play" solution that requires a monetary investment of buying and renting digital assets,
simply to enable playback.
Plex and Miro are for those a bit more savvy, who have libraries
of existing digital assets, who simply want a front end to
playback, organize, and enjoy their assets.
