(excerpted from deleted post)
Something fundamental here - a pattern, if you're willing to see it - is that people hate dealing with The Planet's support team. The Planet's support team makes customers feel helpless. It fails to SUPPORT customers. Dealing with The Planet support makes me, personally, feel crazy. It makes me want to bang my head on my desk. The robotic replies, the refusal to be helpful, the unwillingness to provide real support - they are hallmark characteristics of 75% of the last 4 years (of 8 years total) of support interactions I've had with your team. And I - like anyone else you find on this thread - can fairly easily produce the support tickets to support such a claim. You understand, I hope, that there's a bevy of folks like Dave up there who are intelligent, patient, reasonable people who had similar experiences, and who have yet to discover this particular forum to air grievances. And I hope you understand also that your defensiveness upon discovery of this thread is what prompted him to post his entire story.
I deleted the rest of the post because actually, Kevin looks to be a reason for hope here. Glad he found this forum.

I agree, you should bring back the old way, or at least some method that doesn't stick an extra click between arrival and checking in. Much of the convenience (of placemarks, for instance) is negated by having to find the page to enter text. Checking in is the primary activity which allows Brightkite to be useful. Search box should appear on all pages.-

texburgher reported a problem in Fandango on July 31, 2008 18:08:
Fandango takes my money, but I can't see the movie I bought tickets for.Fandango sucks. Well, let me revise. Fandango is good at taking money online, but their partnerships are incredibly weak on responsibility, accountability, and follow-through.
When I pay 120% of the normal cost of movie tickets, I sure expect there to be seats in the show I bought tickets to see. And if there aren't, I can be forgiving. Just refund my money. But when you don't refund the money, when you in fact obfuscate any process for refund which may exist, you fail.
This is what happened with Fandango yesterday. You listening, guys? I hope so. Let's get a resolution going here.

Though, @Lesley you've got to admit that would be effing hilarious to have implemented as @mkb describes. – texburgher, on July 21, 2008 18:01

Ah, excellent. That is what gives this feature addition its real punch. You ought to note that right next to the privacy radio options, as well as right next to the "Trusted Friend" checkbox. :) – texburgher, on July 18, 2008 20:25
A comment on the idea "Attach Privacy Level to Location" in Brightkite:
This is good but leaves one bit of control to be desired:
"Trusted Friends" should ALWAYS be able to see exact location, regardless of what privacy setting you've selected for a place. Implementing that rule restores "Trusted Friends" as a class to a position of differentiation compared to "Friends."
On a display note- it would be good to be able to view and add/edit/delete the exceptions on the Account Settings > Privacy page as well. That way we don't lose track of the privacy matrix we build.
Great work!! – texburgher, on July 18, 2008 16:14

Change the tone of your support emailsWhy does Customer Service for The Planet suck so hard that they refer to me as "Dear Customer" even in round 10 of an ongoing exchange?-

Some great ideas here. I've been noodling on this problem for quite some time, and want to suggest one more variation on the theme of the always-private flag:
You've essentially already got four tiers of privacy controls (public mode, trusted friends, friends, anybody). These are your verticals. You include the always-private flag concept as a third horizontal per vertical. Give me the option to exclude locations from visibility to certain groups.
In my case, I want all friends to know my exact location, with the exception of if I'm home, at my parents' house, or a handful of other sensitive spots. What I need is the ability to create an exceptions list (with always show / never show options) for "public mode", "trusted friends", "friends", and "everyone."
Thoughts?
texburgher asked a question in Twitter on June 26, 2008 00:13:
When are you going to restore replies?Replies disabled? I know it says "temporarily," but given how long Jabber/IM has been offline, I don't find a lot of solace in this "temporary" thing.
A huge portion of twitter's value comes from tracking and replies. That value is gone as long as IM and replies are both disabled. Presently, twitter is little more than a graffiti wall - no disrespect to graffiti walls intended.
When do you plan to restore these features?

Hey all, the official word is still that emails from vtext.com are not being accepted by Brightkite right now, because the duplicate email issue on Verizon's end is still unresolved.
@chris - shouldn't matter what type of phone you have. once vtext.com emails are re-allowed for checking in, you'll be fine again.
