A comment on the question "Finding friends?" in Brightkite:
Re: OAuth - hear hear!
Right, the information is definitely already public. But being public+automated+fast vs. public+manual+slow somehow recalls to mind the phrase "prettier confetti," and the discomfort in the room that resulted from the EFF chairman's remarks at the portable social networks panel at SXSWi. I'm sure you remember... – texburgher, on April 25, 2008 16:30

texburgher reported a problem in Brightkite on April 25, 2008 13:48:
But I don't want to check in at my downstairs neighbor's business!I work at 600 River Ave, 15212. So do 250 or so other people, and there are 10 businesses in the building. When I check in at this location, BK insists on calling it Bally Design - the name of one of the 10 businesses in the building. But I work at Elliance.
Need a way to disassociate addresses from business names, or at least assign/choose which business to associate for a user when there are multiples at the same address.

texburgher shared an idea in Brightkite on April 24, 2008 01:30:
Post notes and checkins to Dopplr as well as twitter? How about posting check-ins and posted notes as dopplr journal entries if Dopplr lists me as being on a trip at that time?
Just as useful as having notes I post on BK echo'd out to twitterville, I would love for those notes - as well as my check-ins - to be posted to Dopplr as journal entries for a given trip (if I'm on one).
Is this idea fatally flawed, and if so, in how many ways?
texburgher replied on April 24, 2008 01:24 to the question "Finding friends?" in Brightkite:
Yeah, it's awfully hard to use a social network if you can't find your friends on said network. I can't imagine that point's been lost, and I look forward to seeing find-your-friends implemented well.
Chris' Dopplr mention brings up another point though, which is integration with Dopplr to the extent you can. Twitter integration makes some sense in that it piggy-backs off of a large installed userbase. Dopplr integration makes at least as much sense since trips invariably take us to more than one "location," and BK deals in the granular attributes of location better than Dopplr (does, or is apparently intended to).
...going to look for GetSatisfaction thread on this topic now...

Since you're authorized to post to my twitter account and I can send twitter updates from my verizon phone, how about setting up a twitter mechanism whereby an @bkite (for example) msg is parsed to do the update? For example, @bkite @210 Locust St, 15202. Seems easy enough, and considering there are more verizon phone users than of any other network, how about it?
