Hi all. According to @biz in another thread, Twitter is hoping to deploy a fix for the [Older] button problem that we have with our Recent and Archives pages today.

I just checked mine and I'm currently able to browse through 43 pages of my Archives, which takes me back to May 2008. Earlier this morning I was able to browse all the way back to page 160 (for a total of 3200 tweets dating back to Jan 2007). Perhaps they're still tweaking the fix.

I'm currently able to browse back to page 13 of my Recent timeline -- equivalent to roughly 3 hours worth of tweets for my account. Earlier this morning I could go all the way back to page 19 (which was around 2 hours worth of tweets -- most of the people I follow are asleep right now).

At least a couple of people I know are now able to access their older Favorites, which were previously not browsable.

Anyway, since the fix was deployed, some people have reported being able to go past page 10. If you happen to still be experiencing this problem after the fix, it might help to add a reply to say so in the other thread.

I dont have Tweetdeck so the problem is NOT Tweetdeck related. Currently I cannot go back ANY pages at all for older tweets let alone more than 10 pages.

1 Month has passed and this is still not fixed. I received this e-mail reply on August 15 from Twitter support in regards to the support ticket I personally sent them about the problem back on July 23:

Thanks for the email. This is a bug. Going back further than 200 entries or 10 pages is currently not working for a number of users. All data is still there and we're working on a way to make it accessible again . Sorry about that, and thanks for your patience!

Just to clarify: I am not trying to go further than 200 entries or 10 pages! I’m talking about going to tweet number 21 on page 2 of my follower’s tweets! The Older Button is grayed out. Has been for a long long long time.

Perhaps Twitter support has lumped our problem into this one where folks can't see back 10 pages of tweets. Hell, I'd LOVE IT if I could go back just 2 pages.

Looks like mine disappeared the other day... Have no clue why though. Unless something like TweetDeck could've broken it, but I've never heard of that happening... It's pretty weak to only have one or two hours worth of updates readable anywhere. Tried the mobile page, the standard page, tried putting in ?page=2 after the url, doesn't show in tweetdeck... Seriously annoying.

Yesterday the older button was active...I couldn't believe my freaken eyes! But, it only went back one single page, back and forth, eeewwww what fun. Seems I had enough content generate in that single session that I could peruse one page back.

I'm 6 hours ahead of EST, so I miss a lot of tweets. The solution from 8 days ago doesn't seem to apply. And I LOVE bigboxcar's take on "getting closer" that really put a smile on, :)

I have had this issue for a while. The older button occasionally comes back- but then usually only goes back to start of the "session". It is obviously only a problem with some accounts. A friend got so sick of the issue she created a new account and hasnt had a problem since.

Last comment from @crystal was 7 days ago -- the encouraging news that @twitter is "getting closer with a fix." It's stil broke for me.

Realizing that "getting closer" means nothing considering it's not relative to the significance of actual progress. (A person trying to walk across the street could pass out, fall forward, and "get closer" to the other side of the street. But after getting closer, person would be not be accomplishing anything anytime soon.)

Okay, I realize I'm getting cynical. But this makes me yearn for the Fail Whale, because at least then I knew everyone else was having the same problem.

um... my older button returned (briefly) today after more than a month without it - and I didn't do anything (ie, add/delete followers) to trigger it. Sadly, within a few hours it was once again dead. WTF?! PLEASE GIVE IT BACK!!!!

So, what I get from all this is that once your older button is inactive you are screwed and nobody cares? My older button lost functionality 2 days ago, I hate the thought that it's gone forever...uuugh.
