We did some testing on a Macbook (firstgen core duo) and I've since transferred to a meaty iMac (2.8 intel core 2 duo) to do the exporting, I didn't have any problems, although I agree that the process could be made a lot slicker :)

Alright,

When you change your domain to point to tumblr your saying "when someone comes to liztastic.com send them to my tumblr" this includes your ftp program, when it tries to go to liztastic.com it's also trying to connect to tumblr.

You could setup a little subdomain, e.g. blog.liztastic.com point that to your tumblr and then your ftp would still work all nicely
