Hmm. Well, I'm no expert, so I think you should call HP. I had a problem with overheating, and after 173 emails and six or seven phone calls--one with a hold time of 45 minutes--I was escalated to a case manager, who (ungratefully) replaced my computer.

They used to. Then they expanded and outsource the first-level CS to India.

Mine's in warranty now and I think I'll buy the extension for it.

You need to keep calling and emailing them. I had an overheating problem with my in-warranty dv5z-1200 CTO and after 173 emails and six or seven phone calls--one with 45 minutes on hold--got escalated to a case manager. Eventually, I got a replacement.

First of all, if your computer is out of warranty, you're not gonna get any help. If it is in warranty, PERSIST. I had the same problem. (at least with the support; my problem was overheating) After 173 emails back-and-forth, plus six or seven calls--one with a hold time of about 45 minutes--I was escalated to a case manager and got a replacement.
