I have a dv5z-1200 CTO. It seems that there is a plastic foot that entirely surrounds the actual power connector. If the cord is yanked, It may wiggle the skimpy solder connection, but I don't think it will directly pull it.

P.S. I only posted on this thing originally because I was having some unrelated overheating problems. Luckily, my computer was in warranty. So, I had the original one repaired three times, then replaced, then the new one repaired once. So, now, after about eight months, I have a working, relatively cool computer.

I think you may have a different model from mine. My power cord hole has a foot all around it to keep it from being jerked from its place. So, I guess HP at least fixed the problem, even though they didn't help you with yours.

Hmm. Well, I'm no expert, so I think you should call HP. I had a problem with overheating, and after 173 emails and six or seven phone calls--one with a hold time of 45 minutes--I was escalated to a case manager, who (ungratefully) replaced my computer.

They used to. Then they expanded and outsource the first-level CS to India.

Mine's in warranty now and I think I'll buy the extension for it.

You need to keep calling and emailing them. I had an overheating problem with my in-warranty dv5z-1200 CTO and after 173 emails and six or seven phone calls--one with 45 minutes on hold--got escalated to a case manager. Eventually, I got a replacement.
