A comment on the question "VIPRE Update error from rest mode." in Sunbelt Software:
JerryA,
When you wake your computer, Vipres auto update interval is going to reset and start over from the time the computer awakes, since it cant update while it's sleeping. This is the way it was designed. I will bring this up to development and see if they can put a wait timer in there to give the pc time to establish a connection. For the time being, you can either let the first update fail and it will check again later, depending on what you have your update interval set at, or you can turn the auto updates off and do manual updates.

A comment on the question "VIPRE Update error from rest mode." in Sunbelt Software:
Still a problem in version 3.1.2315 -- when my computer comes out of sleep mode, Vipre jumps the gun and tries to connect to the Internet before my computer is ready for Intenet connections. Vipre should wait for a minute before it attempts to connect. This happens EVERY time my computer comes out of sleep mode. – JerryA, on October 14, 2008 19:55

Thepeterp,
Please use the following instructions to disable VIPRE's on access checking monitor.
1. Please open VIPRE.
2. Click on file and then settings.
3. Click on the 'Active Protection tab.'
4. Please uncheck the box that says, 'Check files when they are opened or copied.'
*VIPRE has two different threat detection engines. The scan engine and Active protection. When that feature is checked the scan engine will look at the file when it is copied or opened, much like right clicking on the file and choosing scan now. With this feature turned off, VIPRE's active protection will still monitor for suspicious behavior and known bad programs when the program or file is launched.

A comment on the problem "crash at startup - ntdll.dll related" in Sunbelt Software:
This happened again while using Firefox, nothing else, total system freeze. Couldn't use any keyboard commands, mouse was unresponsive for well over 5 minutes. I didn't want to keep cooking my system so I manually restarted.
Upon restart SPF would not start, giving the same error code as before. Whatever is going on with the program is not right and from what I've been reading, applications that report error codes related to the ntdll.dll file usually means that the application developer is making bad calls to the dll file in question.
I am growing tired of this issue as it's happened a few times now, the time it takes to get my system back up and running is unacceptable for a paid product. I would expect this from a free software package. I've never really had any problems with SPF up until now and am wondering why these recent updates don't have the same quality and configurability as previous releases.
I am also having an issue with the countdown timer on the permit and deny screens as I'd like to lengthen the time from 20 seconds to 60 seconds or more depending on the machine SPF is installed on. Who ever had the idea to hard code it in without any configurable settings has lost the vision of the original product. People support SPF because it's one of the easiest firewalls to configure and has a number of options that other firewalls don't easily make available. If things continue this route I may be in the market for a new firewall company.

I too have the problem of the Vipre service stopping. It seems to happen when my computer is idle for a while. I call Sunbelt and was told it was probably the Comodo FW Defense +. I deactivated Defense + but still have the problem. I'm getting really frustrated with Vipre. Has anyone found a real fix for this issue. Security software is pretty useless if it stops running.

Hey RFSharpe,
Thanks for posting. I think it would be best to do a clean uninstall/reinstall of CounterSpy. Uninstall CounterSpy by using the Add/Remove programs located under the Control Panel. Just follow the directions below:
1. Click on the Start menu and click on “Control Panel”
2. Double-click “Add or Remove” Programs
3. Find “CounterSpy” in the list and click on it
4. Choose “Remove” or "Change" if remove is not available.
4. Restart your computer
6. Use the following link to reinstall CounterSpy:
http://go.sunbeltsoftware.com/?linkid...
7. Click on Download CounterSpy.
8. Choose Run and the install will start right after the file is downloaded.
** Make sure to disable any other security software’s active protection while running CounterSpy or this may cause a conflict, too.

Hey Balance,
Thanks for posting. Let's do an uninstall/reinstall, but this time with a Sunbelt Personal Firewall cleaner.
1) Click on the Start button and go to Control Panel.
2) Double click on Add/Remove Programs.
3) Find Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall or Sunbelt Personal Firewall in the list of installed applications. Click on the Remove button.
4) If you did set a password then you will be asked to supply it before the firewall will uninstall itself.
5) Reboot Windows after the Firewall is uninstalled.
6) Now run the Sunbelt removal utility:
http://www.sunbelt-software.com/ihs/s...
7) Now install again:
