tina asked a question in Twitter on June 10, 2009 15:31:
More protection against offensive behaviourI've noticed some people on twitter are just out to be offensive to celebrities/people they dont like. Although everyone is entitled to their opinion, if they are just tweeting people to put them down, should this be allowed even if the abuse is technically non threatening?
Could there not be something in the block feature that you mark to indicate why you have blocked someone? eg: A: unwanted spam B: Offensive behaviour C: Not interested... etc Then Twitter would have a database of why people have been blocked and could act accordingly for the worst offenders.
Sometimes you block people that follow you just because you are not interested in what they are offering or saying, but perhaps this could be changed to just a REMOVE feature and save BLOCK for the more serious offenders who often are not actually even following the people they abuse.
Also could there not be a complete BLOCK option like on Facebook so a profile can no longer be followed? Then perhaps people might moderate their behaviour and not be so spiteful.
Twitter should be fun and informative and I realise it is just a platform and not there to police everything but there should definately be more protection available within the settings available, so people are not open to abuse. I was watching a celebrities updates and one user was just really offensive, just because he didn't like that person as a performer, and then that users friends also joined in.
People shouldn't have to endure such juvenile behaviour and not have options to stop it, it ruins it for everyone.
