Further clarification -- code functions fine in compose mode -- once saved, only sporadic retention of correct code, more frequently truncation of code.
A much smaller widget I've also used: <iframe src="http://tckmiller.webasyst.net/WG/show.php?q=VEcxMTMz-a0112c69" height="140" width="225"></iframe>
Thanks again for all your help!

Thanks for all your help. Here's an example of a Paypal button I embedded (I'll note here that I tried on three different browsers and found an interesting development: it's not that it doesn't work but that it's intermittent. I sat and just pushed refresh over and over for the two events I embedded the button and watched as sometimes the button appeared and other times it just displayed a chunk of code. Functional but *very* sticky). There's another widget I've tried before that used to flunk, but now seems to be working better. All in all, a learning curve, for sure:

Toby Miller asked a question in Spongecell on July 29, 2008 20:12:
Is it possible to add a widget into the event page using the HTML option?how much html is permitted in the custom description area of the event page? I'm trying to embed a Paypal widget, but it does not save all the code when I'm finished. Is it possible to include this widget? I'm hoping to offer a discount for advance sales online.
Toby Miller asked a question in Spongecell on July 23, 2008 21:14:
Why is the default time zone for events in Samoa (GMT-11) when I've confirmed New York time in my account settings? The time zones for events imported from an iCal file are coming in wrong, The default time is for Samoa (GMT -11) so my events are getting pushed forwards since I've confirmed my account's default setting is for EDT (GMT-5). By the way, I've imported the iCal, which derived from Google calendar, into Microsoft Outlook and that came in accurately so I know it's nothing to do with that. How can I make the default time zone for my events the same as what I set for my account?
Mr. Sponge replied on July 10, 2008 14:10 to the question "Mailing list sign up widget problems" in Spongecell:
So, there are two places where you can create/display a subscription widget:
1. From within the event page itself. Edit the event page and click Content >> Edit Remove Widgets >> Subscribe to contact list
2. Or, you can get an embeddable widget. Click on the calendar title, and click Put a Subscription Form on your website. Here you can copy and paste code.
Note: Neither of these options allow you to tag the user. This is a future feature enhancement.
Toby Miller replied on July 09, 2008 22:06 to the question "Mailing list sign up widget problems" in Spongecell:
Same here -- when you add html to the description in the box provided on the Edit Event page, it shows up correctly when you're composing -- when you save it, though, only a part of the code is retained and just shows up in the description as useless text. My guess is Navigator was trying to add a mailing list widget -- I tried the same thing myself since the subscribe function does not take tags (I wrote a separate entry about this here) or show in your contacts list which event it comes from if you have more than one event -- you don't know which event people want updates on before confirming attendance -- the comments function is a little awkward since they have to leave a comment when all they want is to join the list and their info is displayed publicly, which they may not want.

Does event tagging work via the event's "subscribe" function?Should auto tags work on the subscribe box on the event page? Instructions point to the opt in when they interact via the "send future updates" box, though emails added via the subscription list are added to the contacts without knowing which event they're coming from (I tagged an event and then did a request of that tag on my contacts list --- it did not return any responses.)
