Great question! Right now, zembly does not host your database, though we are working on a storage solution.
The easiest path for you at the moment is to use either Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), or the Facebook Data Store API for your application data. This is what you'll see in the various samples at zembly.
We are also working on the ability for you to bring your own APIs into zembly. For example, you will be able to host your own database or service-based backend for your application (say, on Amazon EC2 or your own host) and then easily call that API from zembly. This capability isn't public yet, but we are soliciting early testers. If you are interested in helping out, please let me know at todd [at] zembly.com.

Thanks for the reports, everyone. We had a problem related to an addition of more servers that was causing invitations to be sent incorrectly (or not at all).
Michael, I'll be checking to see if your email address is in the database.
Westin and samolang, can you please provide email addresses, or try again by going through the invitation signup process on the homepage? You can send info directly to me at todd[at]zembly.com.

Hi Charlie; sorry it took so long to get back to you. Great question, and I know several people have asked this same thing. Here's the scoop:
Today, in the private beta, the code you write is viewable by other people in the private beta. However, they cannot edit your things unless you invite them to.
In the near future, we will allow you to make your code private, but before we do, we want to find ways to encourage people to also work in the open, at least part of the time.
Why? Ultimately, zembly is about creating social apps, and doing that socially. We hope the community within zembly will contribute to the commons so that people can learn from others and reuse what they create.
The idea is that the the more people use zembly, the more interesting and useful it becomes. Though we definitely understand that proprietary code has a key role in zembly's ecosystem and that users need that feature, we also feel it would be a shame if zembly were *only* a repository of proprietary apps and code. We hope that in time, zembly can be more interesting to all of us than anything purely proprietary could be.
To summarize, we will definitely add the ability to make your code private before we're out of private beta.
Until then, are there any issues for you with the current model of openness? Is it something that prevents you from using zembly during the private beta, and if so, in what way?

Thanks Maya. I think what you're referring to is what we call the invitation email, which is the message that gets sent to you when someone on zembly invites you to join zembly.
The confusion probably arose because we are reusing this feature to send beta invitations from the zembly system user when you register your email address. We could modify this message to be clearer that it is in regard to joining the beta.
Todd Fast marked one of maya's replies in zembly as useful. maya replied to the idea "Visual Chunking / White space".
