A comment on the problem "Unable to update security definitions" in Sunbelt Software:
I installed a free download manager / accelerator and it solved the download problems. I was able to downloaded v2.5.1043 and then the update to definitions as described in another post. It now works fine, and so does my computer again. – Aaron, on July 26, 2008 15:57

Hi Tom,
thanks for the post! CounterSpy automatic updates will NOT run if your computer is in a sleep, standby or hibernation mode. You can either turn hibernation off or simply reschedule CounterSpy to update at a different time. The automatic updates should also be scheduled at least an hour prior to the scheduled scans.
Also, if CounterSpy does update at 1am and then we release an update at 8am CounterSpy will show the definitions as being out-of-date until you manually update or the next scheduled update occurs.
If you continue to experience any more problems please feel free to contact our support team at support@sunbelt-software.com and we will have someone work directly with you.
Thanks,
~Tim

Hi Tom,
Thanks for posting. You will need to update to version 2.5.1043, first.
Use the following link to download the latest version:

Save this file to your desktop and then double-click the installer file to install CounterSpy v2.5.1043 Please make sure that all other security applications are shutdown or disabled before installing CounterSpy v2 to avoid potential conflicts during the installation.

Unable to update security definitionsWhen I start a security file definitions update, it goes verrrry slowly, and ultimately hangs after about 20 minutes. It takes Task Manager to end it. Can you help, please?
Yesterday, when I attempted to open counterspy, it hung on the loading common libraries. Did an uninstall/reinstall, and this definitions update problem began when I first attempted to bring CounterSpy back up to current versions. V 2.5.1032, definitions 569
