Could you give me a contact to get access to the API please? – Tom Foley, on November 03, 2009 04:18

I'm using Synble with WiFi on my E71. The trick that makes it use WiFi is Birdstep Technologies Smart Connect. http://www.birdstep.com/Products/Bird...
This makes a WiFi access point appear to Synble as a cellular access point (forgive the non-techie terms), but hey it works:-)
I note their website says it's only for E and N series Nokia phones, but they have another product called Safemove that may fit the bill for other phones.-

Thanks for giving your attention to the suggestion. I'd like to add to the rationale for why it would be beneficial, should anyone rise to the challenge.
There are many Google Voice users who are using the service via what I would call "virtual mode". By this I mean that traditional phone devices are replaced by SIP devices and internet-capable smartphones such as the S60.
The goal is of course to reduce what you pay to your mobile phone carrier, something I believe many would aspire to, but also to allow greater choice for the end-user.
On the S60 platform, there are already efforts ongoing towards that end, especially with the voice side. Synble, with it's SMS-style delivery may be well suited to play a role on the SMS side.
In general, if a text message is left at your Google Voice number it is forwarded to your mobile/cellular phone. However it is calculated or hidden, the end user ultimately pays for this. It may suit people better to leave the SMS at the inbox and have Synble deliver it as part of their regular data plan.
And then their are all the GV users who are not using mobile phones with a SIM card from the U.S. They have no forwarding capability from their GV SMS inbox whatsoever, Google only supports the major U.S. cellular providers for SMS forwarding. Delivery via Synble could be a real boon for them.
I'm not well up on web-programming, I was reasonable at programming when AS/400's were state of the art :-), but unless someone comes forward, this may be just the hobbyist project to force me to get out of the dark ages!

Hi tkoola,
This is true that there is no published API's, however many have succeeded in using REST commands to get at the data programatically. Of course these are liable to break on any Google whim. But I know of one python project and possibly another in PHP that can pull the data needed.
In fact, just fyi, perhaps you could take a look at this S60 project... http://digs.by/Ytk

Collect Google Voice SMS messagesIt would be great if Synble could check my Google Voice account and forward SMS messages from there too!
Tom Foley asked a question in Flock on September 26, 2009 02:06:
Flock and OpenDNSI use OpenDNS for DNS services on my PC. This allows me to define my own shortcuts which I can type into the browser nav bar and fetch the content.
However the shortcuts do not work under Flock (2.5.2). Following the related suggestions I found here regarding Yahoo search still did not fix the problem. Additionally, the suggested Firefox settings for OpenDNS which I found at the OpenDNS website did not fix it.
So, does anyone know how to get OpenDNS shortcuts working in Flock 2.5.2?

A comment on the problem "Unable to perform any update" in Synble:
I too have the issue with the friends tab. Synble is installed on the phone memory. Syncing works fine, but when I select the friends tab, Synble terminates immediately, no error message, I'm just back at the phone's applications/installations menu. – Tom Foley, on September 19, 2009 16:34-

I use the http://www.orb.com to view PC media on my mobile device. It's kind of like a slingbox where the PC is the TV and your phone is the client device. There is no need to do any manual conversion of audio or video. The PC does however need to be powered on and connected to the internet, and then Orb software acts as a personal media server.
I'm not proposing it as a solution but nonetheless some may find it useful.
Tom Foley replied on August 10, 2009 18:38 to the problem "Unable to perform any update" in Synble:
Hi Tkoola,
I'm running version 300.21.012 RM-348, dated June 18th, on my E71.
I would also like to point out that Birdstep Smart Connect v1.3.6 runs at startup on my phone and I suspect this may have something to do with it. As you probably know this sofware creates a virtual APN.
My cellular provider's real APN is approx 6 or 7 on the list of AP's in Birdstep as I usually have a WiFi connection in most places I visit and I prefer to use them before going out on the 3G network.
However, selecting either the Birdstep or the real cellular APN within Synble still results in the hang described above, so maybe I'm sending you on a wild goose chase with that info.
Meanwhile I'll try various combinations with/without Birdstep to see if it makes a difference.
Thanks for the reply, it is appreciated!

Tom Foley reported a problem in Synble on July 24, 2009 19:09:
Unable to perform any updateI have Synable 2.0 on my Nokia E71 v300 firmware. When I try to sync from the phone I get a status message "Starting manual synchronization" but then it just sits there endlessly. Even pressing the "Home" key to bring up Task Manager does not work.
It will respond to the Exit key however, at which point Task Manager appears. When I restart my user name and password are blank, so it never gets to retain them either.
As it stands right now, this software seems to be useless! Does anyone have any glimmer of hope to offer?-
