So he says: "Great idea as competition for Poken".
The phone thing at the moment is cumbersome. Get your internet connection going, open a browser, go to mynameise.com, login, select card and exchange. With a poken it's just joining the devices and all is set. BTW, the iPhone interface fails lots of times. On the BlackBerry it works great.
This will change when the native clients will be available and by then A LOT of people already signed up for E and are ready to exchange.
Also the Connector will help here although i don't think that the Connector can compete in price with the poken because of the advanced technology the Connector contains (RFID chip, battery, charging circuit, memory).
I would love to hear more about the Connector from a commercial and security point of view. RFID is infamous for its security issues and what is actually stored on the Connector? A link like on the poken? Or your cards?
Ah, and I'm curious how fast E is catching up on Poken. Anybody has some account statistics of the two websites? ;-)

Hi Pieter!
We are fighting the same struggle here in Spain. A couple of weeks ago there was a Facebook party in Barcelona where at the end 12.000 people were present. We negociated with the organisation to get in there with Poken, but no avail. They were dealing with Red Bull, Desigual (brand of trendy clothing), Telefonica (telco) and companies like that and they basically told us to F O.
I went to a couple of smaller parties, Twitter meetings and such and guess what? They all buy direct from Poken S.A. No way do do real business there. Yes, i sold a couple of poken, but most of the people there either already had a poken or a friend bought a box and shared them among his/her friends.
So i guess we have to go for the mid-size parties. Problem is how. Any ideas from Poken would be welcome. I think what needs to be done is the bigger resellers in any country need to join forces and exchange experiences and ideas. And Poken S.A. needs to support us in that! Where is our marketing material? Yes, we have a mail from Stephane that it's on its way, but nothing so far. I've been asking for digital material to send to publishers, i had to download the Poken logos from internet. I had to send a tiny JPG instead of a proper EPS. Where are our free marketing poken? When are the logo poken finally available? Yes, you can pre-order them, but the price is WAY too high and no production yet (that, at least is the last thing I heard from André). Guys, we are running YOUR business! We are doing YOUR local marketing. We are translating, creating our own support sites, blogs, etc, etc. Do something back, PLEASE!!
And now E is live. Free. Cumbersome if you have to use your mobile (connect to web, login, exchange), but native applications for iPhone, Symbian, Windows Mobile and Java are on their way. So are the Connectors. How are we going to fight them? In three days of E i have more contacts in E than in three months of Poken.
We need to join forces, the resellers, fans and Poken S.A.
Just my €0.02
Ah, and drop that stupid point system otherwise we will never have returning customers. If i sell for 15 euros and the first thing people see when they sign up on the poken website is that they get 10% discount on a price of 10 euros, that kills my business.

Ok, this presentation is a bit vague. I'm looking forward to knowing how you want to make money with a free service. What is "premium service", how are you going to sell the connectors. I have several mails out about that, but i guess you are all still partying and celebrating your success on the TNW09.

Ok, the problem i have when i poken people is that by default people get my card ghosted. On top of that, when I receive a ghosted card, i can accept and reject it. No matter if i accept or reject, the card just disappears.
I have some users whom i have pokened several times now and i just don't get their cards....

Ton replied on April 09, 2009 09:25 to the problem "You've been ghosted!" in Poken:
I normally poken first without touching anything. Then i explain the different modes (as far as i understand them) and start clicking the button. I don't poken them afterwards anymore.
So i think Gilles is right. By default the identities are ghosted.
I think the whole identity concept needs to be made more clear. I've been pokening for a while now and i still don't understand all of it. So either i'm not smart enough for this or the site doesn't always work the way it's supposed to do. Check my other post "I still don't understand anything about identities and modes.", "Friends get unwanted deleted!!" and "How to manage identities?" for more info.
