Tony replied on May 15, 2009 02:18 to the question "Why does Comcast reject my American Express gift card for 1 time payment ( not recurring) ?" in Comcast:
I had to pay $106 for a $100 American express card and I an unable to use this card.
I have $100 on this card, there is no reason that comcast or American express needs to reject the card.
Its like handing someone $100 and them telling you that your money is no good.
I would like to know if this is coming from Comcast or American express and what exactly their issue is with the card?
Tony replied on May 01, 2009 22:27 to the question "PayPal after 180 days?" in PayPal:
I did post the question but no one ever responded to it.
If I knew that paypal requires my social security number, why don't they simple state that before you sign up.
Its almost like they are trying to wait until you have money in your account so they can try to use the social security number as an excuse to steal your money.
I will have to wait and see if they release my money or else see if a maybe there is a class action lawsuit I can join.
I have never heard of a company that will do this type of shameful activity.
Everyone is always trying to steal your social security number. I guess illegal aliens trade social security numbers on the black market.
I wonder how they obtain those social security numbers in the first place?
I am sure that a regulated bank is not disclosing that information but more likely an unregulated company.
When did paypal change from a money transfer service into a social security number data mining company?
If you guys require a social security number( which you don't), then at least you can be upfront about it and ask for it while a person is signing onto the service instead of hijacking someone money and holding it hostage in exchange for the social security number.
I hope a good class action lawyer takes up this as a case. I would join in a heartbeat.
Tony replied on May 01, 2009 14:05 to the question "Why does Comcast reject my American Express gift card for 1 time payment ( not recurring) ?" in Comcast:
1. I called and linked my name and mailing address to the gift card to avoid any such problem
2. When I go in person and swipe the card, I do not believe it is a issue of needing to match information.
It is my impression from many conversations with American express that Comcast have asked for charges coming from American express gift cards to be decline.
In other words, it sounds like Comcast has told American express than anytime an agent swipes the card for them to reject it and it has nothing to do with not enough funds or mismatched address,etc..
I even asked to speak to a manager and the person said that " Comcast does not want to take American express gift card for recurring transaction"
To answer your question, American express can see the transaction but they seem to indicate that the reason for the rejection come as a request from Comcast and the way they have setup their system to automatically reject any gift card transaction.
I ask if the error code indicates a mismatched address or unavailable funds, etc..
They said no, it just indicates a rejection because it is not suppose to be used for recurring bill payments( which I am not trying to do. I am trying to make a one time payment or made a payment in advance). American express also said that it does not make sense to them why it is being rejected since the gift cards are like cash.
It is almost like handing comcast $600 CASH for my next 6 months bills and they are saying, no we don't know how to accept your payment.
I am asking if.
1. There is a person at comcast who has authority in this type of credit card transaction who I can explain that I am trying to make a one time payment and/or pay for my comcast bill in advance using these cards. ( not a recurring payment)
2. If it is true that merchandise purchase will allow the purchase with American express gift cards but not service?
Can you give me the name of a person or special department who might know how I can specify that I am making a one time payment which should be allowed instead of assuming that every payment is a recurring payment?
Thanks
Tony replied on May 01, 2009 12:43 to the question "Why does Comcast reject my American Express gift card for 1 time payment ( not recurring) ?" in Comcast:
I have called the number and received multiple answers.
Most recently, I received an answer saying that comcast just does not want to take it. I use the card for cell phone bill all the time without ever a problem.
As far as fraud is concerned. the card is prepaid and cash is in the account.
So it is almost the same as paying with cash and it appears that comcast has gone out of their way to make sure they don't take the card. I am assuming because they won't want recurring payment to happen from a card without money on it or something to that effect.
That is why I offered to pay comcast 6 months in advance using my American express cards however their system will not take the card.
1. I tried to make a one time payment online and it gets rejected
2. I tried to call in and make a one time payment and its gets rejected
3. I physically go into the comcast office and have them swipe the card and it still gets rejected.
Everyone at comcast does not know why and apparently this goes higher up. Is there a person who is in charge on credit card transaction at comcast who might know what the deal is?
Someone at american express told me that if I paid for comcast equipment then it would work because they comcast would use a different merchant ID with equipment than it does with service. I am not sure if that is true or not?
Someone at comcast call center told me they use the same computer program regardless.
I would really like to know if there is a way to tell comcast that these are not recurring payment but rather one time payments with the American express gift card.
Tony reported a problem in American Express on May 01, 2009 12:19:
American express gift card don't work with comcastWhy will American express gift cards not work with comcast.
I understand about the recurring payment thing but I tried to make a one time payment in person at the comcast office and it still rejected it. ( it required a physical card swipe)
I even offered to pay them in advance and it still rejected the card in any shape form or way.
Can anyone explain what the issue is and why American express gift cards can't be used with comcast?
The cards seem to be worthless if all places laugh at the card.
Also, why can't American express combine smaller cards into larger cards.
Many online places can't combine 3 X $100 CARDS however if I had a single 300 card, it would be so much more useful.
Not sure why they don't make this card easier to use.
Thanks.
Tony asked a question in Comcast on May 01, 2009 12:05:
Why does Comcast reject my American Express gift card for 1 time payment ( not recurring) ?Hello.
I am trying to find out why comcast rejects my American express gift card when I try to make a 1 time payment.
1. I understand they don't want a recurring payment from a card with a limited amount of money on it however.
2. If I am paying my cable bill, I can't even go into a comcast office and have them charge my card 1 time or make a 1 time payment. Comcast had hard coded their system to reject the American express gift card in any shape, form or way it seems.
3. I can't even pay for cable service in advance using the card( Comcast just flat out won't take it)
Do they have even have the ability to tell the difference between making a one time payment and making a recurring payment?
The American express gift card is like having cash in hand. There is not even a credit type of situation because it works like cash in the bank and has lower fees for the vendor.
Comcast seem like they setup service centers to allow different payment options for all types of people. Why do their systems have such a problem with the American express gift card.
The reps are clueless and try to take the card and just say its rejected when there is in fact $100 on each card.
They would not even offer to make my money by payment a payment in advance( before there wven was a bill)
Is there anyway to use a American express gift card to help pay for my comcast ?
Thanks
Tony replied on May 01, 2009 11:50 to the question "250GB Bandwidth limit with no way to monitor." in Comcast:
There is a new video game console called "onlive" which allows you to play video games by streaming them over the internet.
If you are watch a lot of movies that stream over the internet, you would use this amount very quickly.
I personally have my entire office wired with IP-cameras and monitor the video stream from a remote location. This is very bandwidth intensive.
If comcast can tell exactly how much data you are using, why can't they simple allow a customer to know as well? How are we suppose to guess on something like that?
There is no way in the world a networked house is going to be able to know how much data is being used especially with video streaming devices which are networked to the internet.
This is a very bad idea. It reminds me when a certain ISP said they wanted to ban any user who used linux or had an AMD processor.
My old ISP( or maybe it was comcast, I don't remember) said you are not allowed to every buy a network device ( example: Router, switch, network, etc) because they wanted you to pay for a separate internet connection for every device in your house that uses internet.
Tony replied on May 01, 2009 03:08 to the question "PayPal after 180 days?" in PayPal:
How do you get your money back? Can you call up after 180 days or login and get a bank account to send the money into?
I never got a 180 day message to get my money. Just said they want my social security number which I do not want paypal to obtain.
The damage that can be caused by the social security number is horrifying.
My account is limited but not closed. How do I get my money without revealing my social security number to an unregulated company such as paypal?
Is it 180 days from the day it was limited?
Thanks
Tony asked a question in PayPal on May 01, 2009 03:00:
Paypal limited, $900 in account, Demanding my Social security number. How can I get my money without giving up my info?Hello.

I want to know if my money is being illegal taken hostage unless I release my social security number to paypal?
After reading the horror stories about paypal and now they are unregulated. I do not wish them to have my social security number.
So can anyone tell me how I can get my money out of paypal?
Do I need to wait 180 or something? I never got an email saying how I can get my money out and my account is just limited and not closed.
How can I get my money out without giving them my social security number?
I have a bank account number which has my name on it. Can they transfer the money into my bank account?
