Hi Dave,
The reason we changed is that TinyURL simply doesn't have the back end infrastructure that bit.ly does, which means that it suffered from regular downtime. Moving to Bit.ly means that Twitterfeed can be much more confident that your tweets will resolve properly. This is also why Twitter made bit.ly the default for its service.
Also if you log in to Twitterfeed now you'll see stats regarding the number of people clicking on your link. You can't do this with TinyURL and it has been a highly requested feature.
