In 1.0b9 (or the 0.9 rereleases) just the preferences file:

~/Library/Preferences/com.thecocoabots.Hyperspaces.plist

In 1.0 proper, you'll need to grab the files in ~/Library/Application Support/Hyperspaces (it's a SQLite database).

For anyone else experiencing similar problems, Tim and I have been back and forth a few times by email, and it's early days but it does appear that the latest builds (anything newer than version 0.9.2.1 - build 1100) works OK for Tim.

Hi Sheridan, I definitely need to write some help and put it up on the Hyperspaces website.

In the meantime, when Hyperspaces loads it puts a small icon in your menubar:



Left clicking on this icon will show the Hyperspaces menu (including a list of all of your spaces, and a menu item to open the preferences) and right clicking will show the Space switcher.

The anti-aliasing problem is because I'm using Core Animation - it can't do sub-pixel rendering, so things tend to look pretty jagged. I'm really not sure if there's anything Apple can do about this (from Core Animation's side) so I may need to do some view layering and hope that that works.

There are three major things I'd like to get into Hyperspaces in the next few months:

1. Proper multi-monitor support - although this is likely to make it use more memory :(


2. A way to leave the switcher on-screen all the time (like in Linux desktops)


3. Live previews of the windows within spaces in each space - I did a lot of experimenting with this one back when Leopard first came out, and it wasn't possible to do it nicely. I'm hopeful that Snow Leopard will make this fairly easy.

Oh, and different methods of control like mouse and other input devices (smackbook? light sensors?). Bear in mind, I work full time and Hyperspaces is taking a lot longer to complete than I originally thought - a couple of months might stretch out a little.

Is there anything you'd really like to see? (I saw your "Me too!" in the Dock-per-space thread)

There should be an additional icon for Hyperspaces in your menubar, up near the clock. Left clicking on this icon will show you a list of your spaces, the preferences and a menu item to quit the application (which would then mean you can safely delete the application).

It looks a bit like this:

I've had a few reports of key shortcuts not being allowed by the system. I'm using a fairly unsupported method of setting key shortcuts (mainly for 64-bit capability), so I'll need to do some testing - thanks for giving me some specific examples.

Under "Advanced Preferences", you'll find a checkbox labelled "Set the system desktop picture when changing spaces". Enabling this will make the menubar behave as you're expecting.
