tracy_the_astonishing replied on May 11, 2009 10:23 to the question "Join Button on Widget is Not Functional in Firefox 3 Mac (Myspace)" in Platial:
I had a look at that page and the join button is working now for me across browsers. Maybe it was a temporary problem.
I do notice, though, that the map is not quite fitting into the map box. I peeked at the page source and I see that there is a width tag:
height="434" width="350"
If you go into the page settings and find the map code and change 350 to 100% then the join button should be more visible. Are you using the Myspace-specific map code? I know that Myspace poses certain restrictions and if the map gets too skinny, you might have some issues with people adding themselves. If that's the case, you might consider putting the map into one of the wider boxes.
I hope this was helpful! The site looks great.

The flash map also works on "My Page" inside a blog post.

If you go to the manage tab, under features, you can put the blog on your network's main page so the map appears there. http://funparade.ning.com/
Of course if you are really using the blog feature you don't want to tie it up for displaying a map. But if you aren't... this could be a work-around.
I'm looking for some kind of flash display app in their library now.
tracy_the_astonishing replied on May 11, 2009 10:05 to the question "Ning - Platial embed issues" in Platial:
I've just been investigating Ning and I have found one work-around so far. You can get Ning to display the flash version of the map if you lie to the interface and tell it that the map is a Youtube video. Youtube uses flash to play its videos, so a lot of times flash maps will work where Youtube videos are allowed.
It seems like Ning is in some way discouraging people from using apps that are outside of their application library. You might write to them and tell them how much you would like to be able to put your Platial map on Ning.
Important:
When you get your flash map code, change the width tags (there are two to find) from 100% to width="400" (or 500, 600 or whatever you want.) Otherwise it comes out all scrawny. You can see my test here: http://funparade.ning.com/video/400-w....
I'll keep poking around and if I find more places where you can get your map in, I will let you know.
tracy_the_astonishing replied on May 11, 2009 09:20 to the question "Can I use Platial map as a guest map?" in Platial:
Hi Julia,
You can use an all-purpose map for whatever you like. If you use custom categories, your users will be offered your categories. You will want to publish the map in the javascript form, though, if you use custom categories.
We don't have any options yet for mapmakers to create their own fields, so you are unfortunately stuck with address!
tracy_the_astonishing replied on May 11, 2009 09:18 to the question "Can I somehow deactivate auto-refresh + other questions" in Platial:
Hi Cannibal,
Your English is just fine! I understand your questions perfectly.
To stop the flash map from moving around, just hover your cursor on the map. It will start it's automatic thing again after you move the cursor off the map.
Unfortunately, we can't change what the all-purpose map button says. That's a nice feature request, though!

Hi Sparklr,
We are not yet offering a private version Platial. You should be able to change your pin color on an all-purpose map by editing the post. The Guest map on the other hand was designed to be such a simple input that simply deleting and re-adding are not so time-consuming, so editing powers on that kind of map are leaner.

Hi Jason,
Make sure that you are logged in to Platial. You can only bulk upload to maps you own, and not yet to the "User Places" map, which is the automatically generated map that shows every place you ever add to any map anywhere on Platial or on the web.
If you don't have another map, just click on "make a map," and choose "all-purpose map." Once you have your map set up, click on "add a marker" and you will find the bulk upload tool there.

tracy_the_astonishing replied on October 13, 2008 20:29 to the question "How can I add more than three custom place types to my map?" in Platial:
Unfortunately, there are only three custom categories possible for now and it is indeed an either/or question. You can either use the categories we have or your own, but not both.
I'm sorry that the current interface isn't perfect for you. You bring up very good points and we hope to move to better customization in the future.
