I'm one of those women you're talking about. :-) Most days I wear my small custom classic, stuffed full of books and school stuff. I wear it two ways. One is traditional messenger style, as in the video. I will admit that I don't tend to cinch it up as tight, because it was digging into my under arm area a bit when I did that, but I do wear the strap high up.
The other way I wear it -- more often -- is to slide the padded strap of my left-handed bag off my shoulder so that it's pressing sideways, not down. The strap ends up looking more level with the floor. I have a shoulder/neck injury, so what this wearing method does for me is makes most of the force going sideways compressing my upper bicep area (or whatever you call that) instead of the force going down, pressing my shoulder and neck. I have a lot of padding on my arms, so it's very comfortable. It also doesn't compress my chest at all, because the strap is going across my upper chest, far away from the sensitive parts.
I don't wear my bag for cycling, I wear it for a long public transit commute with a lot of walking. My sideways method does *not* work for cycling, as it allows for more movement than that, and the cross strap won't work when I'm wearing it that way.

Getting customer service response for Ebay item Timbuk2 shipped? What's up with unique bags being sold on Ebay and how do I get questions answered about one? A week ago I saw a particular very limited edition messenger on eBay .Because it was so unusual, I wrote the customer service email address to make sure the bag was authentic Timbuk2. I also asked if it was possible purchase it directly. I never got a response to my message. I then called the Hayes store and was told that yes, bag was authentic and unique, but they didn't think there were any more in stock or for sale. Given that, I put a very high bid on the bag and won the auction.
The unique bag arrived shipped from Timbuk2, in a Timbuk2 bag. Unfortunately, it had been misrepresented on the eBay listing -- described as leather, when it's not. It is also missing some small features I expected. I wrote the ebay "Seller" -- must be someone at Timbuk2 -- but didn't get a response to that, either. Now, there's another one of these bags for sale on eBay, also with the misrepresented description.(So much for no more in stock!)
I've been really used to fantastic customer support from Timbuk2, so this seems out of character. How do I get straight answers? I hate to have to go through Paypal/eBay and report y'all to have this addressed, but I was sold a bag described as leather that isn't leather, that's missing things I would expect a Timbuk2 bag to have, which also wasn't explained in the listing.

Yes, as far as I remember. This question about colors has been answered elsewhere, I think. Did you search for other topics about it? It has to do with limiting the options in the online system.
I think it's cool to have options that are only available in person at the store, but I understand why you might be frustrated about it.

Yup, I went with a small custom classic, in hunter/hot pink/hunter. It's been almost exactly the right size. I also got a matching hunter Eula (with pink logo!) for days when I just need my netbook and a couple of extras. I have a matching hot pink sleeve from Ogio I use in both bags.
I love my classic so much I *almost* want a matching Checkpoint, if we ever get custom colors on those.
TrinSF replied on March 16, 2009 06:30 to the question "Are you fixing the bag builder medium laptop messengers to fit the new 15" MacBook Pros?" in Timbuk2:
EDIT: Not trying to upset you, hadesnocturne. :-) I'm just wondering about this topic.
So, curious. Do people expect in general that Timbuk2's bags will be optimally sized just for Apple laptops? I mean, they're not even 20 percent of the current market share, and will probably stay in that range for the next couple of years. But that aside, there are a number of questions about if a particular Timbuk2 bag will be resized to fit the changing sizes of Apple laptops. What about all the people who have laptops from other companies? Shouldn't the bags be resized to fit the largest market share?
Hmm, I guess it's possible that Apple consumers represent a larger market share for Timbuk2 than other laptop owners. And it's not that I have anything against Apple -- the laptops (or at least their graphics cards and device drivers) put the food on my family's table. I'm just curious about the insistance that a product that's not explicitly made for Apple or their products should nonetheless be optimally sized for those products.

TrinSF replied on March 13, 2009 06:00 to the question "Which Timbuk2 Bag is Right for Me?" in Timbuk2:
Hey! I'm a university student too, and recently had the same question. I have a lot of the same stuff, and just worked out a Timbuk2 for myself. I carry an HP Mini netbook in a neoprene sleeve, a Mead Flex binder (11" x 10"), spiral bound course packs, 2-3 small texts and assorted crap like wallet, cell phone, etc. I don't usually carry a big textbook, but I have carried a big thing once.
Based on that, I found everything fit in a regular classic messenger small, with a little room left over. BUT, a *custom* classic small is a little bigger, and that was a roomier fit when I tried it out. (REI carries some colors that are custom to them, and the bags are custom sized, so that's where I tried them out.) Because the custom is a little taller, books can go in on their short side, if that makes sense, which makes a little more room.
The down side is that the bag isn't padded especially for the laptop, but like I said, I use a neoprene sleeve anyway. I really recommend taking your stuff to a store that sells the bags, like REI, and putting everything in to see how that would fit. Oh, yeah, and I just noticed they're having a sale on any bag with the color green in it, even custom ones, so if you like green at all, you can get a deal that would make a custom more affordable.

TrinSF asked a question in Timbuk2 on March 12, 2009 21:45:
Does removing the logo tag void the bag warranty? My new custom classic messenger small arrived in the mail today, and it's lovely, with one tiny exception. The "Timbuk2" logo ribbon thing that is attached to the front pocket and shows under the flap? It's sewn in badly, so about half of it is obscured, and it's a little crooked.
Of course, this doesn't affect the functionality at all, but it just looks a little funny. If I just cut that tag off cleanly, will that somehow void the warranty on the bag? Is there some reason to leave it on? I feel a little silly that it sort of annoys me, but it does.
TrinSF asked a question in Timbuk2 on March 04, 2009 05:45:
Classic messenger small with different dimensions at REI?I went to REI tonight to try on Timbuk2 bags with my actual school stuff and laptop. I think the classic messenger small is going to work fine. But, there were actually two sizes of classic bags labelled small there. The black/gray/black bag they had was one size, and the pink/grey/pink bag (which is unique to them, I think) was slightly larger. It was maybe 2 inches deeper. It also had no red key thing and a different inside pocket.
Am I imagining that? Is the pink/grey/pink an older version? If so, are other color combinations in that previous measurement? I ask because I'm wondering if the eBags selections include any of the "older" measurements, or if this is just an REI thing. The slightly bigger bag is a little better for me, but I didn't want *quite* that much pink.

I know this is a long time ago, but maybe for future reference, the Caltrain folks don't do customer service via GetSatisfaction. You'll get a better result by calling or going to their website (www.caltrain.com) where there is an online customer feedback form you can use to send your complaints. Either one of those ways will get your complaint into their system so it can be addressed.
