A comment on the question "why won't comments load on gawker and jezebel?" in Gawker Media Tech:
It's very, very very slow to load. I think it's slower than before, and that's saying something. – tscheese, on July 10, 2009 18:13-

Can you guys please test your code before rolling it out next time?Rolling out a new web-based product or service should not, in any sort of professional production environment, break half of your web clients in the first 24 hours. It makes absolutely no sense that there was not sufficient testing done before rolling out the new forum software.
Now that I can see the new comments in IE, they're still a hopeless mess that takes whole minutes at a time to load. It's slow, buggy, and unattractive. This is not production-ready code. This is barely an alpha.
I am very, very disappointed, and yet completely unsurprised. Gawker code has been a mess for nearly a year now. It stopped being snappy and responsive sometime last summer, and the quality just went downhill from there.
I'm not a paying customer, and I'm sure it makes no difference to you whether or not I take my business elsewhere, and I doubt this will even be read by any of the Gawker Tech staff. All I can say is, I guess I should have known that the new commenting system would have been a massive mess.-

Please add an "oldest first" option to the new commenting system. The "newest first" commenting system is difficult to navigate. Please enable an option to sort in the chronological order that the user prefers. This user prefers oldest first. Please?

Still can't post comments on JezebelUsing Windows XP and IE7. Often the "Loading Comments..." twirly indicator will go on forever, without actually loading comments. If comments DO load, I can't reply (it just shoots me to the top of the page if I try to hit the reply arrow) and I can't post comments (the page just reloads when I hit "submit.") Tried restarting, clearing cache, etc, no dice.

Comments aren't loading on Jezebel. This morning, comments aren't loading at all in Jezebel threads. I was able to view comments in a few posts earlier today, but after about 10:00AM or 11:00AM EST on 5/14, I wasn't able to load any comments at all. The "Loading Comments" indicator just never shows up, and the page just sits there saying "Opening page http: //jezebel.com/etc/etc..."
Windows XP and IE7.-

Very slow scripts on Jezebel, erratic comment functionalityJezebel is having some erratic problems today:
First weird behavior:
There's a script that's crippling just about any browser I try (Firefox 3 on a mac, IE7 on a PC) that's causing Jezebel comments to load agonizingly slowly. I keep getting the message "This script is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly. If the script continues to run, it may cause your system to become unstable. Do you want to abort the script?" (Hitting Yes or No on this dialogue box doesn't seem to change the site's performance either way.)
Second weird behavior:
-In IE7, some comment threads don't load at all. I'll refresh the page and the "Loading comments..." indicator appears and doesn't do anything. Refreshing the page a number of times will eventually get the comments to load quickly. Which is nice, but, on the posts that load quickly, some comments seem to be vanishing when I hit "submit". I just get sent to the top of the page while the comments reload.
There doesn't appear to be a pattern to this. Some posts had the first weird behavior and now exhibit the second, or started off with behavior #2 and now are doing #1.-

Can't reply in IE6 or FireFox 3I can't make replies on Jezebel in Firefox 3 or IE6. If I click the "reply" arrow, I just get sent to the top of the page. I can post comments, but can't reply. I've cleared cache and restarted both browsers - no dice. Help!-
