TSquared replied on March 31, 2009 15:45 to the problem "CS V3 approaching endless deep scans?" in Sunbelt Software:
Peter, I did as you instructed and indeed, the deep scan time, with the same definitions file that took 3.5 hours yesterday only took 43 minutes this time. But does having the same definitions file automatically speed it up the 2nd time around; (it has seemed so in the past)?
Secondly, what am I losing by not scanning inside the archives since I thought the purpose of the deep scan was to look at everything?
Finally, note that I am on CounterSpy V3.1.2315, which is, I think, a few versions back. So was the scan engine improved in later versions or in this one? If those improvements didn't come until later, then I wouldn't have them, would I? And if I don't, then that wouldn't seem to be the "culprit" that suddenly started causing the long deep scans a few days ago would it?
Thanks for your continuing help.

CS V3 approaching endless deep scans?Unlike some of those reporting longer VIPRE deep scans, I have CounterSpy V3.2315 which I don't believe is even the most current version of CS. Deep scans were taking about 1 hour until last week when it suddenly increased to over 2 hours. Last night, after updating the Definitions file, it took 3.5 hours. Is this trend going to continue?
A comment on the question "CounterSpy V3 seems dead; how do I uninstall completely?" in Sunbelt Software:
Tim, thanks for the detailed instructions. I have 1 question and 1 comment. First, is there any Sunbelt Cleaner for CS V3 that I need to run to be certain that all the Registry entries, etc. are completely removed during the uninstall? Second, I will give this a try over the weekend and let you know what happens. Thanks. – TSquared, on December 05, 2008 17:19

CounterSpy V3 seems dead; how do I uninstall completely?I have CS V3.1.2315 on a laptop with XP HE SP2. After intermittent problems with Definitions updates over the last several days, the application now seems about dead in the water. I use it as an "on demand" scanner, but now when I try to start the app, it takes minutes to start up and never completes loading (e.g., the splash screen never fills out completely). If I try to update definitions, nothing happens. If I try to shut it down, it disappears but then reappears in the system tray. My computer is now running slow, similar to the way it did when I first installed the app months ago (that took over a week to troubleshoot). I haven't made any changes in my laptop configuration in months; this all seems to have followed the CS V3 update issues.
I love the software when it works, and if you have an easy fix, I'd be grateful for it, but I just don't have time to spend hours or days troubleshooting this again. If there's no obvious fix at this time, how do I do a complete and total uninstall of CS V3?
FYI - I have CS V2 running on another laptop and I'll keep that running as long as it's stable.-

Update environment working, not working, what???I have CS V3 on one laptop and CS V2 on another, both going through the same router and high speed cable modem, both laptops with XP HE SP2.
With CS V3 I get update failure error due to internet connection; I'm not having any other connection issues. My app says it's on Definitons v2434, 12/01/08. BUT Sunbelt's website Definitions page for VIPRE and for CS V3 say that the current verson is 2432, 12/01/08. BUT The web pages for marketing VIPRE and CS V3 each say Defintions are current at v2437, 12/02/08.
For CS V2, my app says it's on Definitions v912, 11/20/08; I can connect to your update server with V2 and the response says I am current at Definitions v912. BUT Sunbelt's Definiitons page says the current is EITHER v911, 11/17/08 OR it's version 914, 12/02/08, depending on which line you read.
What is correct for each version of CS and why am I gettng a failure due to internet connection for CS V3 and only for CS V3?-

A comment on the discussion "Upgrade Problems with Subscription Status" in Sunbelt Software:
It took me 2+ hours, rebooting in Safe Mode, using System Restore, going through the entire uninstall and cleaning routine to get my PC running again. I stupidly then downloaded V3, got it installed, got it registered, updated definitions and then tried to run a scan. My PC is hopelessly locked up again and I am WAY TOO FRUSTRATED to try anything else today. At this point I am not impressed with V3 and have no idea how to get my laptop to run again. – TSquared, on August 14, 2008 19:37

Hi Perry. Thanks for the information. My V2.5 now shows the proper subscription information; I didn't do anything to it. I don't know if the definitions update is current or not; it says it is, but it is the same update that it has shown for 2 days (Def Ver 861). It also says I have the current software version (2.5.1043).
I'll go to the link you've provided for V3 and see what happens.
Thanks.

TSquared asked a question in Sunbelt Software on August 13, 2008 17:12:
Outlook Expresss/AV Blocked by SPFI have recently installed SPF and am trying to learn to use it so this is probably a really simple issue; it is installed in Simple Mode. I am using Outlook Express for email and NOD32 Antivirus. When I open Outlook Express, the attempt by NOD32 to integrate with it is blocked by SPF (Code Injection blocked). How can I permit NOD32 to integrate with Outlook Express?
