I can tell you I know the developers are working on a fix; particularily for the "interaction" piece... Outside of the IE8 issue; the "interaction" issue seems to have to do with the way the user account name is setup. There is a known issue will seriously flaw an installation of SBAV if there are special characters or spaces in the user name. There is NO work around for this at this time but to create a brandnew user profile with NO spaces or special characters and move the entire contents of the previous profile to the new one, then install VIPRE... I know.. It is not ideal; but that is the only solution to attempt to resolve this interaction problem.

Also; you need to give SB a chance to remedy something that Microsoft created. The intent in my publishing the problem was to hopefully avert others from installing IE8 until this issue can be resolved.. ,Staytuned... They will fix this.. Hopefully sooner than later...

    IE8 and VIPRE Clash!
Internet Explorer 8 has a problem with Vipre Enterprise! I just updated and my system came up fine; but as soon as Agent loaded; my system basically became unresponsive and an "interactive dialogue" taskbar started flashing. I clicked on the tray icon and it said something about Microsoft C++ had a problem with sbamsvc.exe (Event ID: 1000)and it basically brought my machine to is knees.

    The Exact wording is:
A Device or program has requested attention. Device or application c:\prgfile\sunbelt software\sbeagent\sbamsvc.exe. Message title: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime library.

    The next error was:

The desc for Event ID 0 from source SBAMSvc can not be found.. either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the install ation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display indomation had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

    Service Started

Followed by another error Event ID: 1000

Faulting application SBAMSvc.exe, ver 3.1.2434.0, timestamp 0x49500eab, faulting module SBAMSvc.exe, version 3.1.2434.0 timestamp 0x49500eab, exception code 0x40000015, fault offset 0x0006da37, process id 0xf3c, application start time 0x01 c9a91021f74ed2.

I rebooted into safe mode; disabled Vipre Agent; uninstalled IE8 and rebooted.... Just wanted to give all those early adopters heads up....and a caveat emptor for IE8 & SBAVSVC.

HOTFIX 3 and GUI @ 100% CPU use
Just wanted to make the listonians here availed to a couple of issues that I ran into and subsequently fixed the "gui freezing" and pegging @ 100% issue; with 5019 and forward defs.

When VIPRE installs; there are some well nested directories that are not obvious unless your told about them.

    Enable hidden files and folders
    Goto --> C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sunbelt\AntiMalware

You will see a host of various files and folders pertaining to Vipre.

If your machine is having serious issues likened to the past weeks events; I would encourage you to scope these folders out and check the sizes and number of items in each; and clear them out.

In my case I had over 34000 entries in the history folder and will over 1000 in the quarantine... Thus when VIPRE started the GUI; it was having to process and count each folders entries. All toll I had right at 1.6 Gig of files contained within the folders mentioned above. Once I cleared those out; the GUI had NO issue starting...

I must give partial credit to Jason w/ SB as we both stumbled on this finding out of sheer luck; as this had not been documented or noted up til yesterday.. So before you completely throw in the towel; check it out....

This info is purely FYI.. Please don't stab back saying negatives as this is just straight from MY individual experience... your wear and mileage may vary...

    Ty Carter
I can manually start the agent; and attempt to load the console; but am then met with "Switch-to" or "Retry" server busy message.. This is continuous. If I click 30+ times the console will load but then the agent shortly shuts down. THis is on XP MCE - SP3 and all updates. I'm attempting to use the 5008 defs.

I even went as far as to uninstall the agent; create a brandnew XP profile; delete the previous profile because it had a space int he User ID. This still does not work.... HELP!

This is not an acceptable solution for this client... What is the time frame "future". Is there no registry hacks that would make this available? Maybe a Login As inthe Service?? any other option short of creating a new user profile?

That is correct.. That option is not there and the updates option keeps disabling.

Email module disabled and unavailable; updates launch everytime console is opened
XP-sp2 (All updates); Installed Vipre (latest verson (3.2, 5010)); email module is showing disabled and is not available from the console. Trey icon is also gray. Also when I attempt to open console; Updates launch and timeout; however I'm connected to net. If I click cancel the console will open and the updates option is green and I can click on update now and all is good.

Ty Carter replied on December 11, 2008 01:56 to the problem "After installing Vipre Enterprise, I am unable to logon to the Admin Console." in Sunbelt Software:

    Ty Carter
OK.. Here is the answer to the issue:

    1. UAC MUST be disabled. There are hidden prompts that you will never see that require elevation; and if UAC is enabled then a brick wall will be encountered. Granted; this would be programitically corrected; but this is a sure workaround.

    2. If you opted to have the installer create the CSEAdmin group; then you MUST add users to that group via domain or local users, prior to attempting to login; You might also want to add the CSEAdmin group to the Enterprise Admin or Domain Admins group; but that is your call; otherwise you are going to have to be very granular in the permission sets assigned to the CSEAdmins group.

    3. Vipre now supports installing the agent on the same PC as the console. The workaround for this is to perform the install; presumably after UAC has been disabled; the in the default policy; goto the edit button on the Agent screen and check the box to change the hostname to use IP address (click both). Now you can add the console server to the deployment group.

These are three of the most basic installation questions that I have encountered. Hope this helps.. I know none of these are listed in the FAQ's or if you search on the Viper platform. I have requested even as recent as yesterday to have this solutions seperated and added to Sunbelts knowledgebase.. I guess they will wait until enough people start asking before they do it.. I dunno...

    Hope this helps.

Disabling Notifications on Client or standalone PC
Notifications: I need to all disable notifications on Vipre.. I odn't want user interacting with application. This needs to be an option. We are doing quite a few TrendMicro replacements and this is the case with TM and we like not having the application notify the client... via balloon popup or such.. is there a way to silence these?
