i disagree about YouTube, but not the usefulness. Unless you yourself are actively posting video, the likelihood of someone posting back via video, seems slim to me. That said, if video dialogue is your things... (as would be the case with my wife who has hard time plowing through text and typing back) I do see it's usefulness. – Chris PallĂ©, on July 19, 2008 12:13

Thanks. We're adding this to our list.
Separate issue, but in regards to the loading issue we're doing some serious legwork today to figure out what's going on with it. I'll keep you posted. – Michael, on July 18, 2008 19:09

Michael yes, that's what relying means.
In order to make it work like you say, I need to change my openid url in my settings to db0.myopenid.com and also login like that.
However people logging in like that will show the wrong url. For example I use my own domain as openID because I want it to show that on the comment.
Anyway, I can wait until you fix it. For me it's not urgent but it's good to know that relying does not work.

Just out of curiosity, have you added your OpenID to your ID account at http://intensedebate.com/editprofile? Please let me know. – Michael, on July 17, 2008 16:49

Tyler, I'm not sure how this happened, but somehow your case slipped through. I apologize for the extremely long delay of my response. It really is unacceptable.
We were experiencing OpenID issues when you submitted this support case. We have since corrected the issue. Are you still experiencing this problem?
Please let me know. Again, I apologize for the delay.
Michael

Cheers. It looked a bit less of a rant too before it lost all the paragraph spacing. ;)
I'll summarise it and post it to both forums. – David Owens, on June 20, 2008 11:45

I work for a company that does a lot of work for the public sector, and recent guidelines from the government have reminded their departments that all websites with a .gov.uk domain name must reach Level-AA of WCAG 1.0. This means that all functionality must still work if JavaScript, or some subset of JavaScript, is not available.
Before anybody points out that assistive technology can handle JavaScript just fine, it still has a way to go yet, and there are many other cases where JavaScript is not available. The native browser on my mobile phone doesn't understand JavaScript, and to get things working on Opera Mini requires you to understand how that browser works.
I don't have a problem with the fact that these particular solutions need JavaScript to work, but I'm not comfortable with the fact that without JavaScript the comments simply do not appear. Could a server side include not pull the comments into the page before it is sent to the browser? In addition, I think that the fall back could work more elegantly.
Currently, Disqus seems to handle this better (in Wordpress at least) by providing links to the forum at the bottom of the post.
One improvement could perhaps be to rewrite the text to explain that the discussion is being hosted somewhere else, rather than simply saying that JavaScript is required. It isn't required if you go to the Disqus website.
