I'm going to pitch in one other scenario.
I have a large collection of speeches and talks as well as a few audio books. I don't need them mixed with my music. I do want them same application though, because there are a few portable players that handle the difference well and I hope to get one of them at some point for both music and spoken word.

In the context menu when right clicking on a file add function open folder or location. This is a necessary function. Supposedly the file that is in the library is stored in a folder/network location where a new file was added and user forgot the file or folder path location. This is a must for all those with short attention spans, dyslexics or somewhat alzheimers (j/k). Anyways please add...

Matt replied on September 26, 2008 08:01 to the idea "EQ and applet" in Songbird:
Here's the thing; In my view; GOOD SOUND MUST COME FIRST, or none of the other cool features will matter. In addition to this thread there are threads & bug reports about volume limiting/Normalization & some complaints about the sound. -- see:
http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/t...
etc.
Now we know the Dev's have heard these requests, & they're on the list, & that we're waiting on GStreamer, but improving the sound & sound tools still doesn't appear to be highest on the list according to the Roadmap.
I would've thought that making the player work well & sound good -as a music player- would come first (and even be easier?) rather than implementing some of the fancier web-related features.
For one thing; I think most of us already have ways to find content, both files and streams. I buy most of my music from Amazon, & listen to SomaFM a lot. & we already have a great web-browser; Firefox.
- so once it sounds really good, we could adopt the player as our main music-player early, & show it off to more people, & wait as cool web-search features, & cover art, & even video playback, etc. are developed.
just my 2cents. Still exited...

Great idea! This feature would Singbirg become the killer application!
Also, I agree with faaaab's point, that tags are personal and should be stored locally. You can also think of tags like "heard in summer of 99" or something like that.
I think for the same reason, the rating information in singbird is not saved in the metadata (windows media player does that).
