Dell sucks
I have an XPS M1730 that did this just before the warranty expired - Dell didn't want to know and now my sons Studio 17 has done the same thing one week out of warranty.
Dell have a problem tht they are not willing to sort out, they are the worst company for customer service and shoddy products that I have ever known.

I also found the problem to be the red signal wire that goes to the centre pin in the jack breaking by the strain relief on the PSU cable..
Mine failed after 9 months, Dell would NOT fix the problem under warranty as I was the second user and the laptop was not registered to my address !?!
So howcome they contacted me a few days after the warranty ran out asking if I wanted to extend it ?!?
I have purchased around 10 pc's for my family and business through Dell but never will again.
BTW - Indian call centre = Fail

I also have this problem, BIOS won't recognise the charger. The battery won't charge but the laptop will work albeit very slowly. Dell have been useless, this laptop is 10 months old and as I am the second user they are not interested in repairing it even though it is a known problem. This is the ninth Dell I have purchased and it is the last - never again.-
