A comment on the question "iPod album art?" in Songbird:
can you give an example on how to implement your patch/integrate that library? – uschxc, on August 23, 2009 14:29
A comment on the problem "songbird doesn't open on ubuntu, 3 processes are strarted with no result" in Songbird:
why WOULD they put it in their repositories? its hardly stable, each release screws up something that was working (album art on 5th gen ipods worked prior to 1.0, broke sense), there seems to be a new DB format each release because your previous profile _never_ works, and the freaking interface can't even be dragged of screen. songbird is a great idea but miserably implemented. instead of focusing on making it the end all be all of iPod apps on linux its just trying to be some multimedia monster of an app and fails miserably.
and you still never make mention as to _why_ a package has to be uninstalled just for songbird to work... that is pathetic. – uschxc, on August 23, 2009 14:24
uschxc replied on July 01, 2009 22:15 to the question "Why does Songbird build me up then let me down?" in Songbird:
sounds to me like songbird and its extensions are constantly being re-written and thus each version requires a from-scratch profile and database to even function, sometimes you have to _remove_ packages!
sorry, but its gone from a budding wonder pre 1.0 to a nightmare of an app seemingly only interested in windows development.

yea... removing a package to make songbird work is outrageous – uschxc, on June 19, 2009 08:25

uschxc asked a question in Songbird on May 14, 2009 19:26:
album art doesn't display on ipod (ipod classic)I have Songbird 1.1.2 on Ubuntu Jaunty with a 120gb ipod classic. I deleted my existing profile and let songbird create a new database, ran an album art search and most of my music has album art from within the songbird view. I then wiped the ipod and let it sync with the new database.
I still do not get album art on my ipod. I've tried plugging it into a windows machine running itunes, deselecting the 'show album art on ipod' option which ejects the ipod and forces a re-sync when plugged into my linux laptop with songbird, still with out album art.
this worked with any existing .jpgs in an album's folder before the 1.0 release and has been broken ever sense. when is this going to actually work?

A comment on the idea "Watch-Folder = SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT FEATURE" in Songbird:
i'm waiting for album art to work on my ipod as it works in my library...but that might be a part of device support. (ipod classic 180) – uschxc, on December 23, 2008 23:22
uschxc marked one of Uncle Spellbinder's replies in Songbird as useful. Uncle Spellbinder replied to the idea "Watch-Folder = SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT FEATURE". uschxc and 7 other people think it's one of the best replies.
uschxc asked a question in Songbird on December 16, 2008 21:39:
album art worked pre-1.0, now no album art on ipodMost of my folders have a folder.jpg, and a set of AlbumArt-{xxx}.jpg i believe and songbird recognizes it and displays it, but it doesn't show up on my ipod. i've deleted my .songbird folder and reset my ipod but still nothing.
is this one of the things being worked on with the fetch album artwork? i have a 180gig ipod classic-
uschxc started following the question "album art not displaying in 1.0.0 RC3" in Songbird.

how do you filter out your videos in your library?how can you view the videos in your library? if you have 10000 songs and 1 video, how to you filter your music out?
uschxc replied on November 22, 2008 15:05 to the problem "Devs please please please fix SB's iPod mount time in linux" in Songbird:
I upgraded to 1.0rc3, backed up my old profile (which you should suggest imo instead of deleting the old one) created a new library and erased the ipod and synced it with the new library db. the iPod now takes about 2-3 minutes to mount...and there is significantly less hard drive activity going on. previously songbird wrote a rather large amount of data to a journal file then i believe consolidated it with the local ipod db. whatever the method was, there is virtually not disk writes but about the same processor usage throughout the mount time.
can i some how start over again with a clean install and have songbird spit out a log of its activities? it might be possible to track down the mount lag that way.
my ipod automounts when i plug it in, here is the auto mount options, maybe that is causing an issue; being mounted improperly.
rw, nosuid, nodev, uid=1000, fmask=0077, dmask=0077, codepage=cp437, locharset=iso8859-1,shortname=mixed utf8 flush
i hope we can figure this puppy out
uschxc reported a problem in Songbird on November 22, 2008 02:32:
Devs please please please fix SB's iPod mount time in linuxThis has already been posted, but i think its worth a serious amount of effort to fix. In Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex and Hardy Heron, the most popular Linux distributions I believe, my ipod with around 70gigs of data takes over 5 minutes to mount. once mounted, performance is acceptable but not great. however, songbird is so ahead of the curve that if the mounting lag was fixed it WOULD be the ABSOLUTE media manager and imo player on the linux platform. there seems to be many performance related problems on the windows side, but lets face it they have many more commercial options and currently songbird is the light at the end of the tunnel for linux users. I love this project and i can't wait for its future! For now i will try the 8pre and see if how things go
